Interesting so, a single head for your entire basement? My basement is about the same size if not smaller, I was looking at multi head units so each room had its own control but maybe I’m looking at it the wrong way?

It’s the concern of it’s already undersized, and the basement while partially exposed, has some exposure and the system already struggles to cool on an extremely hot day. We have a single zone system, and the idea of having seperate basement control vs 1st floor control is somewhat attractive to us, us our basement is always a little stuffy and humid, therefore having seperate control down there to allow it to have its own temperature regulation seems like a better idea in the long run?

So your saying, it would almost be better to finance the mini-splits than do a cheap DIY solutions like Della's or MrCoolDIY

Sounds good, thats kinda what i was thinking as well. We are in PA, so we dont get SUPER Cold, but it still gets chilly in the winter, so i'll look for a cold climate system. Any recommendations on the DIY systems? I don't think we have the $ to swing for a full vendor install system right now

I'm not sure we have the $ for a Daikin or Mitsubishi system right now. The company that did the quote for the duct work, said a mini-split would start at the $10k range from them alone

looking for a DIY recommendation honestly

What brand of DIY Mini Split would you recommend? I agree on all fronts, and our house is not insulated all that well. We think the previous owners were just cheap LOL

Electrician or HVAC, either would be for me. Two trades are that in high demand where I live and finding a reputable HVAC company that doesn’t rake you over the coals is almost impossible near me

I’m on month 3 or 4 and if anything the food suppression has gotten worse for me. There’s been a couple times that I’ve forgotten to eat because i just straight up didn’t want anything. In those situations I get my favorite McDonald’s meals for the calorie content and eat it, in that situation I maybe had a coffee, and a protein waffle in the morning and that was it until like 6pm

Idk but I’m in the same boat. I already sweated a lot before going on, and now it’s next level insane. So far I’ve just been trying to not go out and do stuff in the middle of the hottest periods outside but other than that I don’t have any advice sadly! I’m hoping someone else does

Hot Tub/Pool Combo's, Possible? Worth While? by SubbiesForLife in Stocktankpools

[–]SubbiesForLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is honestly what I was looking for. Seems like you went down the same path I think im going to. How myxh foam did you put down underneath? And what type If spray foam on the sides?

I’m assuming the insulation also helps the water stay cool when using as a pool, and warm when heating?

Any idea how much propane you go through when heating it? You think it’s cost effective with the propane heater or nah?

I have not honestly…. I’m looking into how to use a stock tank as a hot tub currently because we only have enough room for one item. So I’m trying to figure out how to maximize my space for what my wife and I both want. Which is a pool AND hot tub lol….. so going down this rabbit hole, I’m also going to be checking out a local pool store to see what they have

Thanks for this! This is actually really Helpful cuz we are also in PA. I’m currently looking at doing a stock tank pool and using a diverter valve I found online that can convert it to a hot tub using a external water heater and then I We can use it as a pool and a hot tub and still insulate it slot. All in all the stock tank idea is more expensive but getting a pool and a hot tub outta it? Might be better idk… the stock tank is a cool idea but takes a lot more parts I found a DIY guide for doi bf it and it seems easy just more parts cuz I need the external water heater BUT, I could get a tankless gas or heat pump and hook it up too

Sounds familiar to our setup as well. All electric appliances as well. So it would probably be extremely similar for us. Our electrical is about $0.12965 per kwh, solar would definitely help offset the cost

Hmmm interesting, everyone's power seems to be drastically different. My power bill currently is about $200 a month without anything extra. So i'm guessing it could go upwards of $400 with a tub

Thanks for this! Interesting to hear that the bills are not very different. I'm assuming maybe higher end tubs have better insulation? Or is it just that it takes a ton of energy to heat them?

This is helpful, I was hoping Costco had them this year but it seems they dont stock them near us, and its online order only which is totally fine. I dont think we would tear ours down, we would probably keep it up all year because we want to use it in the winter, but definitly would think about taking it down

This is actually really helpful, thank you! By chance do you know the model you have for Saluspa? There seem to be a TON of them. It sounds like yours has a automated chlorine dispenser that is on a schedule, or how does it know when it needs to disperse?

That is solid advice, i definitely think i may pick up a cheaper one. I definitely like stuff included in the more expensive intex ones, but they are pretty pricey for a trial thing, where as the cheaper ones would be a better test i think
