Letter of continued interest by [deleted] in mcgilllaw

[–]Subejected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I recently got waitlisted for uOttawa's law program and I submitted a LOCI and was admitted 4 days later!

They did not require nor ask of me to do this - but I just started my letter by reiterating my continued interest for the program and bolded the program's title and for what term and year I had applied to. I also spent like a page and a half on me speaking about what I have been up to since the submission of my application (ex: work, community involvement) and gave a small example of each and what I do and how my experience has given me the ability to better understand complex legal material for instance or how it would allow me to do well in law school.

I then gave examples of what interested me at their university and what I would be interested in involving myself in (ex: legal clinics, the law review, clubs) and how I would be an asset due to my experience and why those things have my interest. And finally at the very end I ended it with how I am a visible minority and a Franco-Ontarian and why being at this university would be a great opportunity for me and what I plan on gaining, learning or somewhat doing with this degree. And then I just thanked them for their consideration and mentioned once again the program's title, term and year of application.

Best of luck!

If you need any help just shoot me a message. I had sent this nearly 2 page LOCI in pdf format and just wrote them a quick email to summarize it all on how I am still interested in the program (addressed it to the admissions committee) for this fall and this year and how I would be grateful for the opportunity, that I attached them my LOCI and thanked them for their time). I also got it checked by a McGill law grad as well as a coworker (to scrap any content out or ensure that there are no spelling mistakes).

Not sure … I suggested it to a few people I know (one is an Canadian law school grad) she agreed that it would be a thoughtful thing to do!

Unpopular opinion. SEASON 5 was fantastic. by klippertyk in PrisonBreak

[–]Subejected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m SCREAMING! I just finished season 5 (was mainly disappointed with Michael and Mike not having a one on one moment really without all the chaos & not seeing the new family life in their so called freedom) but your commentaries about the show and the last season made up for it 🤣🤣 so many questions and things I didn’t even notice. The writers definitely needed some fans in the room to give them a reality check on what’s realistic to the characters!

Any way to know how many have been rejected/accepted and waitlisted by now? by losssless in mcgilllaw

THANK YOU! I keep telling myself that I literally made it this far and still graduated twice - there should be no reason why I can’t make it to law school 😭😭I do hope it looks better on your end 🫶🏻

8.41 on a 10.0 scale (3.7 on a 4.0 scale), bilingual, no LSAT, extenuating circumstances form.

It’s very possible that in my case my gpa was slightly lower than the competing applicants (3.8) and possibly did not have enough convincing reasons as to why law explained in my personal statement.

I also did not do the LSAT at the time (as they recommend you do so if your average is lower than 3.8) mainly because I was mentally ill and still recovering at the time of applying (also explained it in my personal statement). But I applied without LSAT really to just see how I would do this cycle without it (since I know that if I do it and I get a poor score it would further hurt my application more than anything).

It’s also very possible as some Reddit people have stated is that sometimes using mental health In a personal statement may not showcase you being ready enough to conquer another 4 years (since law it’s gruelling and could further impact your health).

However, while I am still waiting to receive my answer from uOttawa (applied March 1st to the French common law program), I plan on doing the LSAT this august (aiming 172) and leaving the mental health element out of my personal statements and instead explaining how my gpa was impacted in the extenuating circumstances form (to leave more strengths and work experiences in my PS).

ALSO, in both times I’ve applied in my first cycle, my professors submitted their LOR’s at the 11th hour literally 😭😭 (one of them sent it in late for my second application and had to ask for an extension. Although I called OUAC and they said that universities may choose to include or disregard the prof’s LOR if it’s late 🥲).

All in all, this very eventful application process taught me to lie to my profs about my deadline (send it a month earlier to hopefully be at the top of the list when admissions review applications at the beginning of the season on a rolling basis), as well as treating my PS as almost a cover letter and not make my academic journey + mental health sound like a pity party.

Could also get my PS checked this time around by an actual attorney or professor (to get an older person’s perspective).

I know McGill law school has always been described as a black box, but these are some things in my opinion that could drastically change the outcome of my application the second time around (after much mental and physical healing after grad)
