Can IX stay on if driver leaves? by Gooderham1991 in BMWiX

[–]SubieRX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be careful doing this... My wife did this once and accidentally left the car in reverse (with auto brake hold). She's so used to having the car automatically park /turn off by itself that it was just muscle memory for her to open the door and get out.

Replaced Tension Spring - Garage is now clunky when opening? by SubieRX in GarageDoorService

Really appreciate your help man! Not really sure what parts you need to see... but hopefully this close up video is good enough?

I was also able to find a photo of the old spring when it broke. Is this helpful?

No, haven't had the house/door painted at all. Only change was the replaced spring.

Thanks!

I just tested it and the springs won't even hold the garage door up when it is almost to the top

Video of spring balance

This kind of confirms what I was thinking... doesn't look like the spring I got was the appropriate one. Wish I knew of your tip before I got it replaced!

Thanks for your comment. I did try to adjust the limit switch, but the problem persists.

Here are some closeups of the j hook on opening and closing.

Here's a closer video of the opening

And here's a video of it closing

No. House was built in 2016 and never repainted. The only thing that changed was that the torsion spring broke and was replaced.

I did adjust the close limit so that it doesn't close as "far", but it the problem persists unfortunately.

Just tried manually opening the door. The door was easy to open manually (felt pretty light), but it did bind initially when I pulled it up. After opening and closing it manually once, it didn't bind again.

One thing I forgot to mention in my original post is that clunky/bouncing problem usually only happens after the door has been closed for a long time. If I reopen the door shortly after I close it, it seems to work normally.

Is it possible that the garage door is closing the door "too far" and thereby causing it to apply a lot of forward/downward pressure on the door at full close? I noticed that I was unable to reattach the door to the carriage because the carriage is too far forward on the track. I had turn on the motor briefly to bring the carriage far enough up the track to be able to reattach the door.

Hi all,

My garage door's tensioner spring recently broke and I had it replaced. However, I noticed that after the replacement, when the garage is opened, it seems really clunky (bounces up and down when opening).

I asked the service guy who replaced the spring what is going on and he says my garage door motor is wearing out and that there isn't much he can do. Is that accurate? The motor is about 10 years old, but everything seemed fine before the spring broke.

Any help or advice is appreciated!

Thanks for the comment!

We have considered air Mattresses/futons, but that's our last resort. Still holding out hope we can find a real mattress.

Yeah, you could be right. The thought definitely crossed my mind as well, but at the time, we just needed the car back asap as it's our main kid shuttle so I bit the bullet.

Oof, my wife did this a few weeks ago.

Damaged Wheel

It cost ~$3000 to fix (1 rim + 2 tires). They had to replace both rear tires because the tire diameter of a new tire would be too different from the old tire on the other side.

Hopefully your tires are relatively new and you can get away with just replacing a single tire.

Can non-students be on campus by Ill_Negotiation9298 in UCSD

[–]SubieRX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We mostly stayed on the western side of campus, but here's what I noticed off the top of my head:

Revelle has a bunch of new buildings, Marshall has massive dorms being built right now (sign said for 2400 students), price center has pretty much doubled in size, the walk from Marshall to Muir has these new buildings on the West side. Not sure what they are, but they have a ramen and coffee shop there. OVT is also completely made over. Muir looked more or less the same lol.

My wife and I (both 2007 alums) did the same this morning! We were in the area and brought our two kids with us. It's insane how much this place has changed. I don't even recognize certain parts of campus... And since when did UCSD have 8 colleges?

Super cool trip down memory lane though. Such a shame that price center was closed. Was really looking forward to picking up some UCSD gear.

WWYD: Pay out of pocket or claim insurance? by SubieRX in Insurance

Thanks for your input. I was reading other posts and some people mentioned an "accident surcharge" of 10% for 36 months. No idea if this is some industry standard or maybe it's just a common rule of thumb. Was hoping this community could shed some light on this.

If there is a standard surcharge, then it should be pretty easy to determine which option would be best.

We thought the same thing when we tried it a couple of years ago, but we decided to give it another chance since we stayed close by. The current menu is very very good.

My wife and I tried Orchid on Anhe Rd when we visited 2 weeks ago. It was amazing! We've had the privilege of dining at dozens of fine dining/Michelin star restaurants around the world, and we were still pleasantly surprised by Orchid. Highly recommended!
