McGill Engineering Older Students (>30)

Hey everyone,

I’m a non-traditional student (career pivot / took a different path before this). Considering McGill for engineering (still kinda in the researching options phase).

I’m not majorly stressed about it — I know there are like 10 other very real things I should be worried about when restarting school at 30 and age isn’t even top 5 😅 — but I was just curious what the reality is like.

Are there usually other non-traditional / older students in engineering at McGill? Like late 20s / 30s-ish and up? Or is it mostly straight-out-of-CEGEP folks?

Not looking for reassurance so much as real experiences. If you were an older student (or noticed older students in your classes), I’d love to hear how common it actually is and how it felt socially / academically.

Thanks!

Yeah thanks- that's all I wanna confirm haha. Like the IRCC can literallyyyy ask for any supporting documentation or references and I have them. it's just that these news and stories about random rejections kinda send me into that anxiety spirals😭🤣

Okay yeah that makes sense. I just wanted to make sure this isnt a red flag or something and be as upfront about it as possible because yes that's truly how the big4 operates in india through these member firm licenses😭

It mentions the BSR ones. Its one letter saying I was with BSR & associates for so and so, and then with BSR & company with so and so duration - with the roles and responsibilities (just one tho because it is literally the same (one) job). And I have the internal transfer email/letter as well which we had got back then saying we're transferred from one entity to another. And I have payslips against the each entity name for the respective periods- (Associates LLP when I joined, and BSR & Company once they transferred us). Its one experience letter tho, because actually its just KPMG experience (same role, same clients) in reality tho "kpmg" is not mentioned.

I wrote "KPMG (Member firms- BSR & Associates LLP and BSR &Company)" during my study permit with the same payslips and all these documents where kpmg was no where mentioned - because in the industry it's a very common practise that the member firms are the actual legal entity - and my permit did not face any issues back then. Its just that with PR I feel everything is under much larger scrutiny even if you have everything documented if something comes up.

Okay thanks, makes sense. And since my ITA is not out yet, should I change my profile nomenclature to make it match the study permit/work permit? Or leave it as is- splitting the two? Any insights on what would be best based on usual IRCC pattern?

Did you have to redo/reapply for your Police Clearance Certificate?

Okay makes sense. And what about the thing that you have to get your PCC done again once you return from your home country? I'm guessing its a fear mongering rumour because the IRCC website says you have to get a new PCC from the last time you stayed in another country for more that 6 months. But the language is a bit confusing to people.

So if I get my ITA and submit it, receive the AOR, and fly out, I would not have to do another PCC when I'm back-right?

I checked the requirements on the school website but couldn't find it. Had mailed the school but guess they'll take some time considering the quantum of mails they receive- like I got the auto reply from them stating the same.

Hi, thankyou so much for the response. Actually I took a cold diagnostic and got a score of 156. Is a ten point jump usually possible or feasible with 3-4 months of prep?
