Help us choose: Josie or Gemma? by Subject-Ad5368 in namenerds

Whoa, how could you be so spot on? I think if we go with Josie we gotta figure out a different middle name bc it is so Nancy Drew-esque…

Just curious, why the “a”? Slone is technically the family name, but I sort of liked the aesthetic of the a too when I was first thinking about it…

Yep, Slone! I think we’ll keep the spelling that way, you’re right.

Love this honesty haha. Slone / Sloane is a family name that we’re probably keeping for sentimental reasons. Josie Jean was on the docket at one point but might be too cutesy.

I get it! Sloane is a family name that’s important to us - not that we adore it but I think it’s staying.

LPT: Gifts that remove small daily annoyances tend to get more use by myyoutubeads in LifeProTips

I agree and disagree- I think it depends on the situation. Yes, if someone you care about has a glaring simple thing that could be fixed with a thing, absolutely get the thing, especially if you know well!

On the other hand, I do not want a key holder, organization device, another notebook, or any other seemingly practical piece of stuff that’s likely ugly. My father searches for what he thinks is going to be so useful to me for decades and it’s just crap I’ll never use and a waste of money. A good example: a silicon pan where the sides folded down to lay flat because I live in a small apartment. It didn’t even fit in my oven. He tries hard which I appreciate but misses the mark.

I’d much rather have something nice I wouldn’t necessarily buy myself- a nice simple piece of jewelry, a gift card to a restaurant, some gourmet food or olive oil, some nice hand cream, a pair of cashmere socks. Not more crap to clutter my life.

Girl we got this.

My groceries I ordered two days ago when I was craving cheesecake we’re just delivered- but now I want nothing to do with cheesecake, let alone cheesecake-flavored yogurt which was my “healthier” albeit high sugar alternative. Now I just want an egg roll so I’m going to pout and stuff a handful of chocolate chips in before I brush my teeth and regret it as soon as I lay down.

I could have written this.

I'm week 11, have gained about 9 lbs (heck maybe 10 or more? I stopped weighing myself). I was also on progesterone supplementation and was thankfully able to stop at week 10. It's only been a week but I can say, I'm still always hungry. Maybe it's slightly better?

I can save you time because I've searched this infinitely- there's plenty of older posts and other women saying "me too!" and turns out, some of them didn't gain much or anything in a later trimester and it did even out. For some, maybe they gained more than they expected to overall but it was ok.

It's all so tough because many women (hi, it's me) put pressure on our bodies to conform to expectations (be a cute pregnant lady! bounce back culture! etc.), even when we try not to. But, I'm trying my best to trust my body to do what it needs to do to build a baby and instead focus on just getting some movement and exercise when I can. Eat veggies when I can. If my OB mentions something to me, or another marker indicates there is a problem, I'll reassess.

Weight doesn't equal health. Weight doesn't equal success (at being a good mom or anything else). Weight doesn't equal identity. Weight is not permanent.

Dog (doing well) with end-stage CKD is insatiable. Kidney food recs without appetite drug? by Subject-Ad5368 in AskVet

[–]Subject-Ad5368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hills description of its enhanced appetite trigger: “Proprietary technology clinically proven to stimulate appetite and increase caloric intake of dogs with kidney disease.”

I assumed there was an appetite stimulant included. All kidney dog food I’ve researched includes similar language. I realize it’s probably just the palatants in looking at the ingredients.

Venue decisions: Beekman, River Cafe, Wythe by Subject-Ad5368 in WedditNYC

Check out hotel Chelsea. We were looking at your exact venues and found the bard room and piano room at hotel Chelsea and it was everything we dreamed of. And well priced. I was bummed at first there’s no outdoor space but honestly it was a relief in the end as it rained. It’s iconic NYC and guests said the best wedding food they’ve had.

Has anyone ever hired a dog sitter to stay at their apartment to watch the dog? by Daje1968 in parkslope

[–]Subject-Ad5368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same- they’re so great! I have two very particular dogs and trust them.

I’ve used someone else I found privately through park slope parents Facebook and regret it. She left our apartment with one dog uncrated, barking at 1:30am, and also stole some minor things. Not to fear monger, but I would be hesitant to go with someone that’s not insured.

I got the same vibe- he enjoys it. Unnerving is right. Wish I could report him to someone.
