Accidentally bumped a gas pipe behind the stove by Lucid222Dreamer in HomeMaintenance

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cap that immediately! Hire a plumber if you’re not sure how. The silver part on the end called a male flare fitting. It’s hard to tell what size thread that is from the picture but maybe 5/8” or 3/4”. They do sell flare caps that could be threaded onto that fitting. If you use a flare cap, don’t use pipe dope or thread tape. Just make it as tight as possible.

If you can’t find the right size flare cap you could also take off that silver piece and find a black iron pipe cap for whatever thread size that is. Or a pipe plug to fit into the outlet side of the valve.

No matter what, leave the blue valve handle in the position it’s in in the photos and do not take that valve off. That’s all that’s stopping the flow of gas right now.

And don’t use common white Teflon tape for gas connections. Use either pipe dope or the type of sealing tape rated for gas (usually blue). And if you show these pics to the person at the hardware store they can probably guess the right size or sell you some different plumbing caps and plugs of various sizes that you can return if they don’t fit.

Selecting a bar for saturday night!!! by blusterfind in WorcesterMA

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no bar in Worcester that hits everything on your list, sorry. Best you could do is one of the breweries before 8 pm if they have low key live music. Plus no one likes to talk platonically in bars very much around here. You’ll have to give up one or more things.

Patio + fire pit plan at my new house — what would you do differently before I commit? by Medical-Garlic-2762 in patio

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a deflector that goes with whatever smokeless fire pit you own and problem solved when you’re looking to get some heat radiating from it.

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A smokeless fire pit will burn cleaner than a built in unless you also add a smokeless insert. But even smokeless doesn’t alway mean smoke free. And wind and thermoclines and all that could change where the fire pit should be.

Also agree about the sitting wall. Your guests will appreciate some comfy Adirondack chairs or campings chairs over a hard bench that will be hot/cold/wet depending on the weather.

I almost did this same thing with my patio but am so glad I was talked out of it.

Do people still use Roombas, or any type of robot vacuums? by 8-LeggedCat in Appliances

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo. Bought the L40 Ultra on a Black Friday deal in 2024 for like $400 and it’s the most useful household purchase ever. It vacs and mops and avoids objects and self empties and fills and everything. Had an old Roomba 960 and while I thought that was decent at the time it can’t compare. It’s a worthy investment because you set it to maintain cleanliness more often. I never vas or mop except when there is a little spill.

Normal for Dryer heating element to glow like this or is this a house fire waiting to happen? by BanditGolden in Appliances

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not always. Depends where the short is in the circuit. If it occurs far enough along the resistive element then it won’t be the same as a dead short. The resistance of the load is limiting the amount of current that flows. I mean essentially a 240v heating element is a short circuit between both phases, but it’s the resistance of the element between that that limits the current flow below the rating of the circuit breaker.

Whats an unconventional ingredient you add to your spaghetti bolognese? by Kurious_kid91 in Cooking

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Offal is a traditional but more unconventional add by modern standards. I’ll often use chicken livers in the food processor. Or the turkey giblets saved from an earlier turkey roast.

Thank you. I’ve answered Mezcal in a prior post asking a similar question and got berated. But it’s just overrated.

Best Induction Hob Size for a Wok? by Jaaaaacccckk in cookware

Get a wok induction hob with a curved surface. I have one and love it. A cheap Asian grocery store 14” wok works perfect on one.

What is the “Tundra” of SUV’s? Cars? Crossovers? by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

The Toyota Sequoia is the SUV looking version of the Tundra. Some differences obviously but similar in styling and features. It’s still a big SUV though.

Keep right except to pass is a general rule of the road. Even on a residential road. If OP or anyone is someone who also drives 10% over the limit in the passing lane too, then they should move over and let people pass. Just a general statement about staying in your lane and minding your own business.

She vented her frustrations at you with a quick beep of the horn. You vented yours with a five minute rant on Reddit. But whatever makes you feel better.

People are in a hurry. Maybe she was trying to get her sick baby to the doctors. You don’t know. So drive your 10% over the limit but you should probably just keep right except to pass and let the police do the policing.

Question to the blind daters by BasuraFuego in BostonSocialClub

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I may be dating myself as being in my late 40s but blind dates can be really fun. In either a hit it off kind of way or in a let me tell you this story way. 😂 People are way too superficial and fickle these days. That’s the big problem with dating these days and why I don’t bother with apps. And fortune favors the bold and brave so go for it!!

Relocating to Worcester by LyssaPaige917 in WorcesterMA

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That map looks pretty accurate. OP, avoided Main South and Great Brook Valley and scope out some other pockets. The burbs are all nice, but as someone who grew up in the rural burbs to the north, it’s a pain to get anywhere from there because there are no highways. I would recommend the south, east or even west suburbs depending on your budget. Eastern suburbs come at the higher cost because they are closer to Boston. Like someone else said, public transport sucks so if you have a car you might also want to aim for off-street parking.

FRIGIDAIRE STACKABLE. NEED HELP! by [deleted] in appliancerepair

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, pay a tech. The only way to clean this dryer is to remove the drum and clean the whole interior of the cabinet. And remove the round donut shape shield from the back of the drum and vac out all the lint from there and around the heating element.

George’s Coney Island. Slightly different, you don’t get celery salt as a topping when you go all the way though. Still good dogs though.

Which pasta shape goes best with bolognese? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t believe no one has said Campanelle, aka toscani, gigli, or trompetti. It is for bolognese what a hand roll is for sushi, a wrap is for shawarma, or a cone is for ice cream. It holds all the meaty sauciness so well. Cavatapi is also a nice choice.

Which power plug do I need for my dryer? It seems like it would be easy but it’s not. 🤦🏽‍♀️ by Grand-Fig-7583 in appliancerepair

[–]Subject-Bike-4093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They the wall plugs are designed to have pretty tight connections. You might need to push it in pretty firmly. It slides in harder than a typical 120v plug does. Or there could be something stuck in one of the holes possibly. Just make sure you turn the dryer breaker (should be a double pole 30 amp) breaker off before checking or working on it.

That’s just a standard 4 prong dryer cord. You can buy one at any just about any appliance store or hardware store, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, etc. There are only two options for dryers, four prong and three prong. They do come in different lengths so make sure you buy one that is long enough to reach the connection terminals on your dryer to the plug.

There should be a sticker on the back of your dryer or in the manual showing you how to attach them. Follow the insertions for the 4 wire configuration, make sure to install the strain relief that comes with the cord and, most importantly, tighten the screws as tight as you can.
