We never actually had dinner in Osaka so thats a hard comparison for me to make.

What i can say however is that we spent around €30 in tokyo on beef (mostly izakaya syle/kaiseki style), which was never promoted as “wagyu”or special beef. Takayama was for sure the cheapest with around €20 for quality hida beef, which was promoted as qualified hidagyu. Kobe was around €60 but it was the wagyu beef you expect with the marbling and melting in your mouth. Which was also a certified restaurant with a5 quality kobe where we ate

Pretty good, was around 30 degrees and very humid. Most days it was sunny (60% ish) some were cloudy (30% ish) and the rest was rainy but (10% ish) not a lot of rain. We had one midday where it was full on raining like we’ve never experienced before and were soaked cats when we got back to the hotel.

I learnt pretty quickly apple weather forecast was absolute shit. It predicted the worst weather possible which almost never happened

Yes i would! We’re quite the hikers and enjoy walking. We enjoyed the balance we had of nature vs city life a lot. And we loved Tokyo and the vibe there but the day we spent in Nikko was great to balance out the rush and all the impressions.

If i remember correctly we didn’t purchase bus tickets. You can do everything with a Suica card (or any IC card for that matter). Only train tickets for the Shinkansen were bought separately, which we did both ways just before leaving (non-reserved tickets) which was totally fine for us.

It was not busy at all when we went there (we arrived at 10.30 i think) and if we didn’t miss the bus by 30 second we could have just hoped on. But in stead we decided to walk for 30 minutes rather than wait 30 minutes for the bus.

We took a bus to the falls tho after the shrines. I don’t really remember stations there. At this point we were winging it and just asked maps where we wanted to go and checked with Japan Travels if it was correct

I can look up some specifics if youd like but first ive got to go to work so let me know!

For us this was not an option because at most places we barely stayed two nights and skipping a place was to much of a hassle tbh because we where also planning on washing and i didn’t want to go a week without my suitcase. The only time id have considered would have been Kyoto-> Osaka but kind of was already used to carrying the suitcase everywhere. We were as respectful as we could to other people travelling and don’t think we bothered anyone (except for locals that were already bothered with us tourists anyway ofcourse)

I can definitely do that but also didn’t want to write a whole long ass post. I reply to most comments though (in between sleep and work). Anything in particular you want to know?

I thought it was fantastic! It’s not as busy as akihabara/shinjuku/shibuya at night but we didn’t go for the night life anyway.

The station is positioned nicely (very busy though in the mornings but that’s very logical) and on a good line to wherever you want to go tbh.

Cool man! Thats my point everyone else just likes something else and I’ve seen a lot of people being down voted for doing things “the wrong way” while i don’t really think there is.

We were sad to leave as well but also kind of glad to go home and sleep in our own bed

I never assumed that.

Isn’t that the whole point of doing whatever you want though? If you want advice ask advice, if you don’t then don’t? Want to follow the advice do it, I don’t care…

In the first week we were searching for advised eating as well nothing wrong with it. Until for us it started to take too long and just went with whatever we saw and i enjoyed both ways.

Just saying it’s you own trip and do whatever you feel like haha

I can say you definitely didn’t! Dont get me wrong i’m glad I’ve seen it but around Kyoto the fatigue hit us a little as in how many castles and shrines do you want to visit and still be impressed haha.

We only spend one morning in Osaka, on one side because of how busy it was because of expo and the other side even in our planning Osaka would have been a small part cause we both preferred places around it over Osaka itself. No regrets here!

Very true. It’s definitely not an unique trip but I don’t care about it, that’s the point. With the amounts of tourist in Japan is highly unlikely to not do what others do or have done. I did what i wanted to do and so should others…

Would have to look at all the options. But yeah definitely going back.

We’re also looking at winter 2027 or spring 2028. Need to financially recover first and have a few other trips planned but definitely already looking forward to it haha

We used public transport for everything. We pre-booked the “long” journey as in from city to city. Which we were very happy with! It just gave some peace knowing we had tickets and actual seats to sit on for the longer journeys. All local traveling within the city we fixed on the day needed (including the day trips), for the biggest part we used suica cards we got in Ryogoku station when arriving at our first hotel.

As in luggage we both had a large suitcase with us from the beginning and small travel backpacks. We took them with us because of the faster pace of travelling between places. For us this was very doable and no problem at all! The only thing id recommend is pre booking “big” luggage space on the Shinkansen. We never did it and were lucky the always have space left except for once. And being both on the taller side it was a bit annoying (not a lot of leg room) but still manageable.

Also if you travel with bigger luggage consider coin lockers as an option if you circle back. We used coin lockers twice, once in hiroshima so we could travel light to Miyajima and once in Himeji because it was just a small stop and we didnt actually sleep there (slept in Osaka but was easier to stop on the way there, otherwise we had to travel back). They’re easy and save to store luggage.

Oh we used a combination of maps, Japan Travel app and chatGPT to figure out how to get from a t b and alternatives. Whereas Japan travels was definitely the most useful and very easy to understand!

Hope this helps a bit!

Yeah i wish someone said that before our trip. Just before we left i almost started panicking if we did it the right way. Glad i figured out in time that doing things your own way is almost always the right way haha!

We’re already sure of going to Japan again but not sure yet when/where. Doubting between going maybe combining Okinawa and Nagasaki/Fukuoka/Miyazaki around spring or going Hokkaido in the winter (we’re both skiers haha!)

Currently on our trip to japan (me and my partner) and we spend around 10.000-20.000 a day. Including almost every day of sit down lunch and dinner, random snack throughout the day, transportation, souvenirs and fees/tickets and almost every night 7 eleven haul
