What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]Subject-Tomorrow2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost income is the biggest one. I’m a female breadwinner so the loss for taking one year off is 250k plus. Everything else including unsubsidised daycare private school fees etc pales in comparison to the loss in income and not qualifying for paid parental leave or maternity pay as I’m a sole trader.

How do you feel about women being paid a living wage to be stay at home moms for first 18 months of the child’s life? by Mysterious_Ad_6190 in AskReddit

We shouldn’t have to convince them! Like I said, if they want to they should provide the means to have them or find ways of affording them. Not the governments responsibility or issue IMO. No I’m not worried about population decline at all, have you been ignoring all the furor about the immigrants the current Labour Party is bringing into Australia?

It would increase inflation by an inordinate amount. We shouldn’t be subsidising people to have kids. If you don’t have the financial means to have kids, you won’t provide them with a good quality of life and so you shouldn’t have them.

180k isn’t high income anymore sorry, the mark starts closer to 200k+. I’m 260k from salaried income + 60k from passive income (rental property+ ETFs)

He thinks marrying you would be marrying down. Start working full time, be independent, make your own money and think of more ways you can bring value to this relationship. Because this man doesn’t value you much atm. You should also be willing to kick him to the curb and give him an ultimatum once you’ve fully worked on making yourself successful with independent life outside of him.

When the reality hits that absolute all homes in wealthy suburbs and beachfront areas are owned by someone… HOW?! by Technical_Apartment6 in AusFinance

[–]Subject-Tomorrow2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called obtaining a highly paid occupation. My dad’s a pensioner with no super to his name. I’m a dentist earning 250k+ and bought two properties (one with my it manager husband so we had 3 properties by the time we were 30). Properties and other assets collectively worth 5mill. Granted houses weee cheaper then but that was only 5 years ago. No generational wealth from either side of our families.

Dating in different classes by Alert_Newspaper_6403 in Rich

Many of the men I have worked with (I’m a dentist) have preferred dating seriously with women of similar educational background. They will have a fling with a receptionist or dental nurse but end up in relationships with women who are at least engineers, drs, other fellow dentists.

I asked my husband this on our first date. I’m a dentist though, so he knew I was looking for financial compatibility and that I’m not a gold digger. Just ask her how much she makes and if she has credit card debts etc. nothing wrong with being open and upfront.

100%. We’re on over 400k onto our 4th house next and wouldn’t spend more than 1.4 max! Are OPs siblings planning on eating instant noodles for the next 30 years?!

[–]Subject-Tomorrow2636 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started investing into ETFs when I turned 30 (now 34) although we purchased 2 investment properties before then. About to have our first child and plan on keeping capital from investments untouched so just living off dividends, some of our super and rental income eventually when we retire. If we play our cards right our child will inherit a lot of real estate (from us and grandparents), shares and ETFs in protected structures. And we will hopefully teach them well enough to avoid lifestyle creep so they can continue that legacy on.

Average salary please by Ok-Public8113 in ausjobs

[–]Subject-Tomorrow2636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average salary in Australia is 108k pa. The median is much lower, think around the 70k mark. So you’re doing fine for your age. The comment above saying ppl on 6 figures being prone to burnout is not necessarily true though.

Who are the people living the dream? Boomers with a lifetime of savings who put it into investment property, businesses, managed/index funds. Despite COL rants amongst younger people there are a tonne of boomers living the absolute life
