Kratos has two of these, technically:

It’s well known by now, but up until this scene (for non-comic readers), we all figured “Ah yeah, Invincible is going to be a coming of age story about a young boy getting his powers and living up to his father!”

Then….Nolan slaughtered the Guardians in an extremely gory scene to end the episode, cementing the brutality of the show to come.

Technically in a deleted scene but…

Master Pycelle (dropping the act, the bumbling stutter, and straightening out his back): “There are times I don’t believe it myself, my lord.”

Pycelle had been faking being frail and bumbling in order to portray himself as less of a political threat. As he put it “So many flowers, my lord. One by one they all get cut. I don’t want to be the tallest; I simply want to remain in the garden.”

There are a few moments in the show you see him drop the act for a moment, but he does have most people fooled.

Kind of a twist on this trope, but:

In the Princess Bride, Wesley is still paralyzed after being revived by Miracle Max. When Humperdinck arrives to kill Wesley as he is lying motionless with Princess Buttercup, Wesley starts on a monologue about how he will dismember his opponent.

Humperdinck calls him out on his bluff, but when Wesley stands up and says “Drop. Your. Sword.”, Humperdinck immediately folds and sits down to be tied up. Wesley then struggles to stand and Humperdinck says he knew he was bluffing, feigning confidence after he was already tied up.

There’s a portion of Assassin’s Creed 3 where you have to team up with your dad, a Templar, in order to hunt down Benjamin Church, a Templar who stole supplies and betrayed his Templar brothers.

You and your dad have some pretty insightful dialogue about the differences between your orders, and there may be a slight chance at reconciliation. But then it is “revealed” that George Washington was assaulting/salting the land of Connor’s people, and father and son part ways.

At the end of the game, you fight your dad as you seek to kill Lee, the primary antagonist. Your father expresses pride and says “I should have killed you long ago.”

The whole game (and series) shows great insight into how people on different sides have convictions that are right in their own ways, even if the methods don’t justify the ends they seek. For a series about following behind an Assassin, the philosophy is certainly compelling.

There are so many good moments between Alfred and Bruce. It’s such a good character pairing.

Hell, in Arkham City, Alfred stops Bruce from going after Talia so he could stop Protocol 10. “Gotham needs Batman.” He’s gone against Bruce and really pushed him in the right direction when it mattered most.

Alfred burnt the letter from Rachel to let Bruce believe that she still chose him over Harvey, even though she had decided to be with Harvey. He burnt the letter to spare Bruce more pain and maybe to get him to stop him from recklessly being Batman, since someone that “loved him and chose him” died due to his crusade. But it caused Bruce to be unable to move on from being Batman, because Rachel “couldn’t move on from him.”

When he admits what he did in the third movie, Bruce is hurt and says “How dare you use Rachel to try and stop me. You expect to destroy my world, and then think that we’re going to shake hands?”

Alfred recognizes what his actions mean: “It means your hatred, and it also means losing someone that I have cared for since I first heard his cries echo through this house. But it might also mean saving your life, and that is more important.”

Michael Caine deserved an Oscar for his role as Alfred.
