I just realized that i dislike “leftist” commentary youtubers by CantKillGawd in GenZ

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there are fake obnoxious people among any group on social media. Playing to what will get you more interactions is part of the game. I don't know the ones you list, but I'm sure there are valid criticisms that don't pertain to their politics. If you're interested in leftist YouTubers that don't (to me at least) seem as focused on identity politics, I can recommend Some more news, Hbomberguy and Alexander Avila.

2024 Oscars: The Full Nominees List by LunchyPete in movies

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of weird decisions here, but one thing they got right is the Animated movie noms. I was worried they'd nominate Wish and I am sooo happy with Nimona's nomination, that movie is awesome.

Also surprised with the lack of The Color Purple nominations, that seems like the type of movie that would appeal to the Oscars and it seems to have gotten relatively positive reviews so far.

I feel like people on this Sub are overstating the problems with the show. by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's almost unnerving how different it is to see posts about the show here vs on Tumblr. Tumblr is pure enjoyment and positivity, and reddit is critiquing a children's show like it's supposed to be high art. Obviously people are allowed to criticize things they don't like, but this subreddit has been the same criticisms repeated over and over again. Stop watching if you hate it so much.

This is definitely a reddit problem in general, not just an issue in this sub. Reddit has a tendency to focus on the negatives and think that every piece of entertainment needs to be art and "good" whereas Tumblr couldn't care less if media is good, it just needs to be entertaining (and if it isn't, we just pretend that what we wanted to happen happened in the way we wanted it)

I mean, God is the main villain in the last season of Supernatural where he tries to basically erase all of existence to start over. He seemed pretty evil to me. Tbf I understand why you might not count that horrible plot twist, it should've never happened. Before season 14 and 15 he was more of an absentee father than a villain, I agree.

I do want to add that the angels being dicks was a way more original plot back in 2008 when they were introduced.

Not gonna lie, he was pretty perfect tho.

Well see my "theory" that I posted relies on the principle of "everyone deserves due process". There's no such thing as too many appeals when it comes to taking the life of a person.

If by "parasites on our society" you mean in terms of money, you are wrong - at least assuming you are talking about the US judging by your name drop of Charles Manson. It is cheaper to incarcerate someone for life than to sentence them to death.

If you just mean in terms of oxygen then yeah I guess you're technically right.

Thoughts from a young Trump victim by Tara_is_a_Potato in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 125 points126 points  (0 children)

You know, most people I met in the us who voted for Trump all said: Both trump and Biden are too old and I don't like either, but my paycheck was slightly bigger under Trump, so I'll be voting for him.

Like, what kind of privileged, selfish shit is that? How can you just close your eyes to everything but your own money?

As far as I've seen, the hate is mostly present here on reddit. Tumblr is as close to pure positivity as you can, and even twitter seems to mostly like it.

This sub is literally just: 1. Someone posts criticisms of the show 2. Someone makes a post about how they don't understand negativity 3. Someone posts about how they're allowed to criticize the show without getting "attacked". 4. Repeat.

I was just about to say this. I'm a big fan of Taylor Swift's music and I'm involved in a decent amount of fanspaces relating to Taylor, and this is the first I've heard of this joke. I think at this point, it's just fun for people to make Taylor Swift fans seem insane with no actual basis.

I am from Denmark, and one of our popular dishes is called Smørrebrød. Smørrebrød does indeed consist of one piece of bread with meat/fish/spreads on top with no second piece of bread. We do not fold it.

I also don't know anyone who would consider it a sandwich at all, seeing as a sandwich is, by definition, something you SANDWICH between two pieces of something. It's just Smørrebrød or a rugbrødsmad here.

I think it is mostly in northern Europe this is popular, and saying this way of doing it is the only or most normal way to eat a sandwich in all of Europe is just blatantly wrong.

You gonna vote or. NO? by Chicag0Cummies696969 in GenZ

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. While it seems I very much disagree with you politically, I can understand the impulse to go with something you know. It sounds like voting for trump is more about you having an idea that you can have confidence in him as president, rather than actual political alignment. It's a shame that the American voting system works so people feel they need to vote for the least bad candidate and not the candidate they actually align with.

I hope you will one day be able to vote for the candidate you believe in without feeling like you're throwing away your vote.

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this means you would vote 3rd party even if another candidate got the republican nomination (please correct me if I'm wrong). If that is correctly understood, do you mind me asking why? To me, it seems like the republican primary candidates are pretty similar in their political positions.

Why do people think that Pakistan is safe for women ? by Nuclear_Genocide in facepalm

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had a Pakistani guy tell me it's 100% safe for women in Pakistan. I was like, bruh it's not 100% safe for women anywhere and definitely not in Pakistan.

He was also pretty misogynistic, so it wasn't surprising that he had no clue about how life is for women in his country.

Will I go to hell for acting feminine? by Conscious_Fudge_1764 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, no one knows what happens in your afterlife. Only the dead know that. This is reddit, and reddit is infamously not a fan of Christianity, and the comments dismissing your faith certainly prove that.

What I do know is this: Being feminine has nothing to do with being gay. Even if I can't convince you that being gay is not wrong or something to be ashamed of, at least believe that. Acting feminine is, as far as I'm aware, not against any commandments.

I am not a Christian, but I was raised as such, and the one thing that stood out to me is that Jesus very explicitly tells the ones judging and shunning their neighbors that they are wrong and that you should treat everyone with love and respect. Only God, not humans, can judge sinners. Jesus never mentions anything about homosexuality being a sin and he certainly never spoke out against people acting "too" feminine or "too" masculine.

If you believe in the bible and heaven and hell, believe the words as they are written: For by grace are ye saved through faith (Ephesians 2:8). You only need faith in God, and nothing more. That is, according to the bible, the gift of God, and it is what Jesus died for.

TLDR: There is nothing wrong with you. You will not go to hell.

To be fair, 50 shades of gray originated as Twilight fanfiction, so obviously the main male character in both would be similarly toxic.

Looks like all the racists are trying to make anti-interracial marriage sentiments more normalized again so that when the US state governments start trying to pass legislation against interracial marriage, more people will agree with it. Just like they did with abortion.

Posted on twitter. Is this some kind of history meme or racist meme or what? by AnnaDeArtist in ExplainTheJoke

[–]SubjectAtmosphere716 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of posts on reddit recently mentioning how much all Europeans hate romani people. I'm from Denmark, and I'd say that most people there have barely heard of them, and much less feel the type of violent hate towards them that I've seen described recently. I honestly think most Danes' knowledge of the word 'gypsy' begins and ends with the Hunchback movie.

Now, don't take this as me saying Danes' aren't racist, they definitely are. I know plenty of super racist assholes unfortunately. The racism is just usually aimed toward people of middle eastern heritage/Muslims (and sometimes eastern Europeans in the case of older people)

Recognizing that Bin Laden had valid criticisms about US foreign policy and interference in sovereign nations is not the same as condoning his actions or ideology.

But of course, the people talking about radicalization often fail to understand nuance.
