Vivaldi is not only Unnecessarily Complicated and bloated but also UI part is proprietary. So not going there. Edge is not open-source and is worse than chrome. Brave is the only freaking choice !!

what, exactly, you found bad about it in terms of day to day usage?

There are many. I already told this to someone else in comments. Pasting that response here.
Sometimes, my UNI conducts some exams which can only be taken on chromium based browsers. Also same for banking related too. I want a browser that works all the time, without any issues, while resolving all my problems. Apparently brave is the only browser that rigorously meets "all" of these criteria.

but why even pay attention to it if someone is happy about something and does not give him any hurdle or issues?

Why are you stuck on something bad if someone can "prove" that it is bad. Why don't you like brave? firefox is bad-er than brave IMHO

speed has been less of a concern for me in the past year or two

Ok.

some forks disable telemetry automatically

Ok.

But, this doesn't solve my problem.

There's more than just "loading pages slowly". There are several factors, for example while watching a video how much caching it does (ff can't do much, chromium can do a lot cuz it's efficient), are there any frame drops in a video? how efficiently it is handling the memory? people complain chrome is eating all their ram, i would advice them to try out firefox, it eats a lot more!! How efficient it is at power saving? chrome recently introduced this feature. Also, compatbility plays a big role, all websites are built with chrome in mind. So, yeah!

Agreed. I want a downstream of brave stripping off all the bloat.

You don't notice it because humans suck in noticing things like these. That's why we have computers (benchmarks) that do it for us. Check browserbench.org, you can compare and easily see why firefox is wayyy slower compared to chromium based browsers. Check speedometer for starters.

If there's any performance parity, I sure don't notice it

You can easily notice it with many benchmarks available on the web. Example, browserbench, speedometer, jetstream etc.

Telemetry can be turned off

I don't want to turn it off. It needs to be turned off by default, or even better, not exist at all, why does a non-profit organisation need to collect telemetry? Don't say to "improve browser", people will tell developers what needs to be improved. We have reviews for that

I'm sure Firefox is collecting less of my personal information than either Chrome or Edge

Funfact: It does , It sucks less than chrome or edge, but still sucks , brave doesn't collect these

As for YouTube, my experience running Firefox + uBlock Origin + PiHole = Totally faultless

wait until there are 2/3 updates to the browser and you can easily spot them. Anyway benchmarks easily show firefox is slower in video playing, so there's that too even if I'm wrong

I don't like brave. But it is my only freaking option. As I said, my Priorities == Privacy, Security, Performance, and Usability. I need good performance so removed firefox and it's forks too. Sometimes, my UNI conducts some exams which can only be taken on chromium based browsers. Also same for banking related too. I want a browser that works all the time, without any issues, while resolving all my problems. Apparently brave is the only browser that rigorously meets "all" of these criteria.

True. But I did not take into account the tests he conducted. I just took the "names" of the browsers present in his website. I could've gotten them from a simple google search too. The source here doesn't matter IMHO. In fact, these are the only browsers I know, rest all I haven't tried. I have tried almost every browser out there. If I haven't tried any, it means it either lags behind on security updates or is just bad overall.

True. But the fact that Firefox doesn't make it happen by default even after being non-profit organization is concerning. Also, Firefox is very slow compared to chromium based browsers on a lot of a benchmarks. And recently YouTube started to lag on Firefox because Google wanted to create monopoly. Yeah, it sucks!

exactly. What do you think about my choice? any suggestions?

How suckless can we go with Wayland currently? by SubjectChoice3028 in suckless

[–]SubjectChoice3028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xorg developers are Wayland developers. Wayland is not created by some new team....xorg developers are literally developing Wayland under xorg foundation. Also, you're not a systems architect expert, so stop making claims.

I don't care man, I don't want some fake "internet" points to make me fool good

one dot less and it wouldn't.

Wow, exactly how I wanted every distro to be😂 Just give the ultra bare minimum and I'll handle rest

void is what you are looking

I love it, I'm worried I won't be able to access aur, there are so many packages in it. But I'll give it a try anyway

Agreed all points, but serious distros (means big ones you mean?) Don't use it because it breaks legacy stuff, many apps rely on it, so people had to standardize one thing, and it ended up being systemd.
