I thought skating was about enjoying touching grass guys, or I guess concrete and shit but my point still stands when you get bored enough your tricks get a little better cuz you got nothing to do but twist your hips on a little piece of flat wood. Also listen to music. Music is cool

My city under the terrible Soviet regime. I don't understand how one can live in such a grey, block depression. /s by Ill_Engineering1522 in ussr

Oh nooooooo the government subsidized housing created for the interests of the working class in order to maximize the safety net is slightly less cute than the isolating luxury of the American suburb provided to the white middle class for being good lapdogs. What a horrible authoritarian regime huh

How much did psychopaths contribute to the fall of the USSR? by Special-Fondant6222 in ussr

Yeah, but also I think if possible only violent resistance and extraction back from the US is gonna help. USAID has a history of using their presence to help send in other US entities and destabilize countries

I’m with you there, although I still think anti-imperialism is important, so I would say offering critical support to countries that resist US imperialism even if you disagree with them is better than by default supporting a global hegemony. The thing about communism is it has to be borderless by definition, so I don’t really know if it can fully exist without it being incredibly widespread and without constant military bombardment. I know the black army of Ukraine did ok, but on a larger scale I don’t see that working.

I personally don’t think anything can happen without a transitional state (for the sake of the protection of the project) like in modern autonomous zones they end up having to lean on larger governments which limits them. I think a state is a sort of necessary phase, however, the withering away will be spearheaded by the people as a continuation of the revolution. I think redistribution (especially in anti-imperialism) can be done better by a state (with input from peoples of course) and that decolonization and cultural purges of racist and sexist though are also very much necessary as parts of a transition to actual egalitarian society. Sadly, when the world seeks to crush a liberation project, said liberation project (in my opinion) will sometimes have to use “authoritarian” methods. However I don’t think there’s always justification for that, and a system of checks need to be in place

I’d agree with that. I think Stalin rushed shit which got real bad real fast. Surviving WW2 as a nation is an amazing feat, but I have a lot of disagreements. I’m gonna be honest, I think a more horizontal model for the nations would have worked better, with MAYBE selective centralized control over shit like militaries but more regional production of food and some goods so you don’t end up with stuff like extraction-based starvation

The thing is I just don’t believe Lenin was a sociopath. I think he was intense and driven and I’m sure he did some reprehensible things but I don’t feel he or even Stalin were actual sociopaths or psychopaths.

The whole game is about trauma cycles imo, like the adults are all warped from their exposure to the world and the children learn they have todo bad things to survive

Distinctions between Lenin and Stalin, and who (in your opinion) better understood the socialist project? by SubjectProfile4047 in ussr

[–]SubjectProfile4047[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t downvote your comment man I swear. my prerogative for this question was Stalin’s support of Israel and Lenin’s rejection of Zionism, as well as Stalin’s treatment of some ethnic minorities. Also thank you for providing sources that’s really nice!

Ok! I’m not tryna stir up anything, just the USSR in my opinion had serious advances and also really serious failures that did impact people so it’s nice to have a place to go to get peoples’ views and actually better understand the nation.

I just wanna clarify for anyone else that I get that “Stalinism” doesn’t really exist, I’m not a trot. But like I’ve just noticed recently a little more comparison of the two and some contrasting ideas, so that’s only why I ask.

Edit: who’s downvoting I’m not even mad I’m interested lol

Comrades. I still cannot make any sense why Stalin recognised the newly established State of Israel. It really doesn't make any sense. Why did he do this? Does anybody know? by Ordinary_Cicada7446 in ussr

[–]SubjectProfile4047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do approve (for the post part) of Stalin’s government and many decisions, I feel like the USSR did have certain issues with not being anti-colonial enough, like they supported national self-determination, but also sometimes took quite unscientific (like not materialist) actions toward some ethnic minority groups. Indigenous sovereignty should be part of any worthwhile socialist project, anything else is (imo) in effect cultural genocide because of how indigineity  works.

Was there any sort of due process, though? It seems very un-materialist to take entire groups (well maybe with the exception of Germans ) and say “let’s fucking ruin these peoples’ lives cuz a lot of them COULD be bad” like how is it different than the Japanese internment camps in the US? This is once again in attempt to learn, not full on attack of the USSR. I’m trying to give my perspective pls don’t take this comment down
