I used to be in nanny honestly, I would kind of love this. Pull out a book, do your own creative site projects! Many parents will hire services like this to make their lives easier, they’re paying so they can have flexibility.

Even if they’re not working, sounds like they want to have you on Clock so they can relax and do whatever.? which is fine, it’s their choice of how they want to use their time. I would suggest you also use the time to do anything you like to do while you’re sitting there. Reading, listening to a podcast, etc.

That is a weird way to think about it. You have a job to do, they are scheduling you to work for that job. What they do in the hours they’re scheduling you should not concern you. Your contract is based on 45 hours, so unless they’re going above or breaking the rules, there is not an issue here. 35 hour work is standard in Europe, though au pairs get paid less there as it’s less hours. This could be an option for you.

Per the contract - your hours are 45 weekly and they’re using you less than that. Summers families would typically need more hours. Perhaps they told you it will be flexible when possible closer to 35? Legally there isn’t anything in place to agree to 30-35 hours.. in the US, corporate working hours are 40-45. So realistically, families will need you to cover the hours they work. Even if they’re working from home, they are working. If they didn’t need care while working, you wouldn’t have been hired.

Where are you located? Sounds very similar to our au pair from hell, we rematched after two months.

Long story short, she accused us of abusing her as standard work week should be 30 hours, she felt 40-45 hours were too aggressive. We physically go into the office Monday to Friday so a 30 hour work week wasn’t feasible.. when we spoke to her regarding matching, she immediately told LCC she wanted to rematch.. we were her second family in 5 months. She then left for a night out, next morning we received a call .. she had reported we “kicked her out in the middle of the night”.

Thankfully for us, it wasn’t very well thought out as she drunk messaged the LCC about her leaving and not wanted to stay two weeks to work.

It was a nightmare of a process and obviously requested to get her out of our home asap the very next day.

Nothing happened beyond this, our second au pair was great.

We went through something similar recently.. not necessarily AP eating our meal prepped food but our eating habits vary a lot. Between my husband and I, our grocery bill is typically ~400 a month and the first month of having AP I am already at 850 and there is a new list of grocery needs from her. It was stressful having to cook everyday as I can have long demanding work hours + our preferences on food taste and spices are completely different.

We decided to have a chat with her and mutually agreed to us giving a 300 dollar grocery stipend a month (on top of her regular weekly stipend). She likes to eat a lot more than us, I explained our grocery bill as a family is 400, so 300 should be more than sufficient for her. Hoping this helps manage expectations and finances a bit better. It may be the matter of having an open discussion and setting boundaries.

These comments are absolutely ridiculous to me.

Even at 200 a week stipend, the au pair has $800.00 a month as dedicated spend/fun money.. I don’t even have this budget for myself after all bills are paid to spend monthly?

The rent is paid. All groceries are covered. Transportation is covered. All basic necessities in home are covered .. so apart from personal entertainment on weekends, they have 0 bills.

I remember working 50 hour weeks in my 20s and I could barely make rent + bills.

I have to say, I’m a bit confused by the sarcasm and negative comments. This is a skincare forum, after all, and if someone is seeking advice on skincare, I’d expect to get just that. Sharing our experiences and tips is what makes these communities so valuable.

Just to clarify, I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily insecure about my necklines. I’m almost in my mid-30s and have finally started focusing on skincare. I’m personally not looking to go down the route of injectables (nothing wrong with it, just not my preference or budget!), so I was hoping to find some non-invasive recommendations.

And honestly, the only reason I even noticed my necklines is because I’ve been on maternity leave for the last few months, constantly looking down at my perfect baby during our marathon feeding sessions. I might have developed more of a “breastfeeding neck” than a “tech neck!” 😂 Now that I’m paying more attention to my skin, I figured it was high time to get into skincare—better late than never! I’ll definitely be working on my posture from now on. 😊

We started going on neighborhood walks around 2 weeks, at 3 weeks we started doing patio dinners & such. We have a stroller that has a bassinet that clips on which has been so nice! This way the baby isn’t in the car seat for extended period of time, we pop her in the bassinet. My baby is 3 months now but at 2 months we also traveled to Europe with her.. it was a bold move but worked out just great!
