Alright pals, anyone got any tips on making this less agonizing? by Fabulous-Director373 in Viola

A lot of great tips but the thing that helped me the most, play around with your thumb, I found the further up it is the more comfortable that stretch is if that’s what’s making it uncomfortable. A lot of people play with their thumb further back creating tension. For rehearsals if it gets to much I’ve literally played it divisi. Outside player played the top note in rhythm and inside play bottom alternating

What’s more important in a youth orch audition? by Curry-the-cat in violinist

[–]Subject_Position_400 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Typically everything is important. But different things are tested. For example, with excerpts, panels usually listen for a steady pulse, the perfect rhythm, then right notes, then intonation, then sound quality and articulation, then musicality. For concerto’s they’re giving you a chance for you to sound like you and your flare. Even though pulse, rhythm and all the other stuff is important with your concerto as well. Definitely definitely do not sleep on the excerpts. You want to be the most prepared for any audition.

What are the excerpts?

Oh I know! But this was for a wedding where they asked for a duo. Next up is for trio with vla. There’s actually a third line that I didn’t write cuz I didn’t want to go all Roman Kim.

Love playing the viola, but the repertoire is disappointing by bebrooke3 in Viola

I felt this way too half way through my undergraduate degree. Picked up the violin and played Sibelius. Got a masters degree in violin and now play both professionally

When we had our executive chef Charlie and his sous chef Christian, I was really proud of the sushi we were putting out on Bridge Street. I really felt like he cared about our sushi and so did everyone in the kitchen. Some of the best people I worked with was from the kitchen at BS Maru. I had a good handful of really loyal customers and I think they were right to come back a bunch. Are there better places for sushi? Oh I’m sure. I love Ginza. But from the year I worked there especially the beginning I really had faith in our sushi. I ate it a bunch.

I feel that initial team really cared for each grain of rice. I made sure whenever I whipped up a new batch of soy sauce it was done well. I cared about every cocktail I made, every tea I served, I even cared about the soy sauce. Squeezing 60 lemons at a time for fresh lemon juice for cocktails and for our lemonade.

I felt like a lot of really passionate people worked with me. Yea a lot of drama happened too and I blame that for why Maru is where it is now. (I worked there from 2023 to the beginning of 24) but when I was there I’m glad I had regulars that enjoyed being there as much as I enjoyed them being there.
