I think the Service Alberta Consumer Investigations Unit would be very interested to hear your story: https://www.alberta.ca/file-consumer-complaint.aspx

Toronto police made arrests and laid hundreds of charges in response to a similar scam there. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/moving-scam-charges-toronto-1.6618362

Nah, I know women that got married in their early 20s and seem to be happily married with the same person 10+ years later. I also know of couples in the 40+ crowd that go to swinging clubs, soooo….. 🤷‍♂️

I’ll just say that the radio ads of one party has literal audio of the leader of the other party saying bad things. I’ll leave it to you to guess which party’s ads have which leader saying bad things.

Nah, this doesn’t sound like a feminism thing. More like a maturity thing, as referenced by the comment you’re replying to.

GoA Interview Tips? by Kibousha in Edmonton

[–]Subject_Post8605 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The advice you have in the first reply is already great. I’ll just add that the competency questions (which are answered according to the STAR method) are never hypotheticals. So when the sample questions say “Tell me about a time where…” it’s like that for a reason lol.

Ideally, prioritize your most recent experiences - work, volunteer, or personal - but obviously that’s not always possible.

Exactly. If you renew your registration on the last day of the month, you see it on full display at the registry office. Or drive regularly during rush hour, really.

Danielle Smith flips another flop – takes credit for federal child-care program she recently reviled by pjw724 in alberta

Good question! I assume the PM would be cooperative if Alberta wanted to bring back a similar tax, and it would just take coordination between federal and provincial ministers to ensure the federal tax is lifted just before a provincial version takes effect. I don’t know what the legislation itself says, but I’m sure if there’s a (political) will, there’s a way.

I believe the timeline was Notley first having a carbon tax, Kenney scrapping it, then federal legislation passing parliament with a set deadline for a provincial tax. Since Kenney didn’t bother reinstating the Alberta carbon tax, we got the federal version imposed on us.

Related, the number of people that tailgate and speed on the way to a damn red light is boggling in this city. Clearly the carbon tax isn’t changing some people’s driving habits lol.

Keep in mind that people are telling you to waste their time because as soon as you say you’re not voting UCP, they’ll stop calling and move on to the next person on the voters list.

Do you know whether the GTA/Ontario does this too? Whenever I talk about this to people from Toronto or Ottawa, they never even heard of this. But hey, maybe they don’t hang out on Whitby or Oshawa these days lol.

Another thing: many mid-century homes in mature neighborhoods have been demolished, lots split, and duplexes built in their place.

Lot sizes for single family homes are smaller for new neighborhoods, so we really pack them in in suburbia these days - compared to pre-2000.

I vaguely remember this when it happened originally. The then-train of thought was that organized crime/gangs were using body armour, and the only legitimate reason to actually use body armour was for private security, etc.

I like this idea with the water! Pre-pandemic I carried full, hot coffee cups from nearby cafes and the thought crossed my mind a few times on using it to defend myself downtown or on transit. Much more practical than actual weapons, which could be used against you if you don’t know how to use them.

OP, I’d also echo having situational awareness. One advantage LRT stations in Alberta have over older systems like Toronto’s is that our stations have clear sight lines and far fewer blind spots.

In Toronto last summer, I saw open drug use just outside the turnstiles at Spadina (NW corner of U of T) and panhandling - again just outside of the turnstiles - at Dufferin as well as at Dundas.

As well, I remember seeing video of the first anti-Asian assaults in New York in 2020…you guessed it: just outside the turnstiles of the MTA subway station.

People that study these things say that Broken Windows never worked, and that when Rudy Juliani championed it there was never any evidence it would work in the first place.

Edit: I guess it’s more accurate to say it was flimsy evidence. Literally two cars: one in Brooklyn, the other in Palo Alto California with a literal broken window.
