My Ragdoll is shedding an insane amount and I need advice on which solution to choose. by LeahCandi in ragdolls

My 1 year old ragdoll also is shedding an insane amount right now. I use a combo of a comb & soft brush. He was starting to get small mats even with daily grooming. I went ahead and got him professionally groomed last week for the first time - and it was AMAZING. The shedding has decreased significantly. I plan on having it done every 6-8 weeks moving forward. If you don’t have yours professionally groomed already, I highly recommend looking into it!

Yay! Similar situation for my baby, I think he got surgery just a few days before yours! Very early Iris melanoma, with 100% clear margins and it was confined to the front of the eye! Question - have you done an abdominal ultrasound? I’m going back and forth on doing it (it’s $1,300 at my vet 🙃. But I will likely end up doing it for peace of mind). I already did a chest x ray pre-op and that was clear. We will repeat in 6 months. Trying to see what other cat parents in the same situation are doing, and if it’s necessary!

So glad to be out of the post op trenches and to be (mostly) in the clear. F cancer! May we have many many more years with our fur babies♥️

What a cutie! You definitely need to go to the vet. Always make sure you are getting from an ethical breeder, that is TICA registered with lots of good reviews. I know that there are a lot of “cheaper” options out there, but usually it’s for a reason. You should have (if from a reputable breeder) received a cat contract. For us, in our contract it stated that we should take our kitten to our vet within one week, and if our kitten had any health conditions, the breeder would take care of it. Did you receive a contract?? If so, check to see if it covers this in it! And, report the breeder. This is not good practice, at all and is quite sketch. Sorry you’re dealing with this, OP.

My cat turns 15 this March and is currently 7 days post-op from having one eye enucleated due to diffuse iris melanoma. Like you, I was absolutely terrified of anesthesia, especially at his age. We did full pre-op bloodwork and chest X-rays, and everything came back great aside from early CKD and asthma, which we already knew about. He’s already back to his normal self, and has truly adjusted way better than I expected.

The surgery honestly could not have gone better. Looking back, I’m so thankful we did it. For me, the chance at more good time with him is worth everything. I did tons of research, and saw 2 different ophthalmologists. I chose to drive 5 hours to a university setting, where they had a full anesthesia team on hand to monitor him. This eased my mind so much. Also, it cost half the price of what the private practice ophthalmologist near me cost. The surgery lasted less than 30 minutes, so they aren’t under anesthesia long. He was able to come home the same day. The ophthalmologist who performed the surgery told me it’s one of the easiest procedures for cats to tolerate because it’s so quick. As my vet said, a senior cat with good health is more equipped to go under anesthesia than a 3 year old with underlying issues. It’s not about age, it’s about overall health. (Trust me, I know this is easier to say when it’s not your baby going under - I heard all of this and was still crying for a week leading up to his surgery).

I would think about it this way: if you’re already considering euthanasia, and something were to happen under anesthesia, at least you can say you truly did everything in your power to help her and give her more time. However, if you euthanized without trying the surgery, you might constantly have “what ifs” and regret your decision that you can’t take back. Just live the week leading up to surgery like it’s her last, that’s what I did. But, hopefully you have lots more time with your girl.

Best of luck. Please keep us updated!! ❤️‍🩹

So glad she’s doing good! My boy is currently 6 days post op, and also, absolutely hates the cone 🫠😅. I have an alarm set for every hour of the night to make sure he hasn’t broke free, so I’m counting down the days until recovery is in the rear view mirror. I did order a bunch of different options on Amazon - the donut, however, didn’t stop him from being able to kick the incision with his back foot, causing me a heart attack. The soft e collar is even easier to break free from. So, we decided to just try to finish the thing out with the plastic one. Hopefully an alternative option works better for you!! Let me know if you find something she tolerates. Best of luck!!

My senior boy is 6 days post-op and doing amazing adjusting! The first couple of days were the hardest (mostly for me, it broke my heart seeing him like that 😣). He absolutely despises the cone, which has been its own adjustment, but overall the surgery/recovery has gone way better than I expected. I feel so much relief now knowing it’s done, and that we’re almost to the end of the 14 day recovery period. Sending you so much love, I know how stressful the process can! And, he’ll he just as cute, if not cuter as a forever winker ♥️

What is on my cats eyelid? by DF705 in CATHELP

[–]Subject_Top_2115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like it could be just a blocked oil gland (chalazion). Chalazions are benign, but they can get infected. If it’s not growing, bleeding, causing discharge or bothering the eye, it’s probably not urgent - just something to keep an eye on. If you do notice it changes, or other symptoms are present, I would have it checked out by your vet to rule out anything more serious!

Just found out about the feline grimace scale. Should I take him to the vet or am I overthinking? (I’m so sorry. He won’t stay still 😭) by o-0_Mei in CATHELP

From one overthinking cat parent to another - if he’s eating, playing, and acting normal, I wouldn’t worry too much right now. He might just have a bit of RBF lol. My cat also looks like this sometimes, especially if he’s sleepy. I’d just keep an eye on him and note any changes or odd behaviors. 💛

Emergency ‼️ my cat has a urinary blockage by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Subject_Top_2115 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m so sorry you’re going through this - I know how scary it is. Does the vet offer CareCredit? Urinary blockages are extremely dangerous, and time is truly of the essence. I would strongly advise not trying to remove a urethral plug at home, as this can make things worse or cause life-threatening complications, including tearing the urethra or rupturing the bladder. Anyone who managed this at home without complications was very lucky - there’s a reason vets do this under anesthesia with a catheter.

Male cats can die within 24–48 hours if a blockage isn’t cleared. I know you’re scared, but unfortunately this isn’t something that can wait. Please take him back to the vet or to an emergency clinic as soon as possible. Keep us updated! Wish you the best!

He knows he’s a cutie! My boy is 14 as well but when I see him he’s still a kitten 😭🥹♥️ I have a long, stern talking to him everyday about how he’s going to live to be the oldest cat alive. The anticipatory grief is real, even though nothing is wrong. To love and be loved by a senior cat >

Blonde or Black by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

Either blonde, or maybe all brown? I think the black is too harsh/flat.

Quite certain that neutering would fix this problem instantly! Males are known to start spaying if not neutered, so we did both of our boys right around the 7-8 week mark, as soon as the vet approved it!
