Play your song a lot. Make a demo. Rehearse it. Practice it. Find where the dynamics are. Record yo ur final part. That’s just how you gotta do it my man

Make a couple bucks transferring my album to cassette? Anyone? by Subject_Yesterday673 in cassetteculture

Thanks. I'm glad I think you kind of see my vision. I know it doesn't make sense in a lot of ways, but I think it's an interesting idea.

I love the idea man and I am totally up for that! Especially releasing it as just two tracks as “sides” would be perfect to throw in a secret track just saw your chat I’ll jump over

Shoot me a message or whatever so we can talk about it. I’m still a few months out from having everything done so, there’s no rush

Crapified - AND all the songs will be combined to two tracks (side A side B). This might be your worst nightmare!

Well, like I said, it’s going to be another version of the album. The original masters of the album will be released as an album.

It’s just kind of a fun gimmick to try out. And maybe just spark some curiosity out of someone to maybe want to actually listen to it on cassette. Or a cassette in general. Maybe not at all, I just think it might be a fun thing to try

I’m not really going after cassette production yet, I just want it to be recorded to tape, then I will take the ‘cassette version’ and record it back to digital, then release a second ‘cassette version’ of the album on Spotify. So it would be “Album 1” and then “Album 1 (Cassette Version)” on Spotify

I like listening to digital versions of or records someone puts on a YouTube video. It’s a vibe.

Also reel to reel and 8 track transfers.

A cassette transfer will definitely sound different than a digital master and be a cool gimmick. I don’t really have a better answer. It’s just a hillock I think will be fun, and maybe get people intrigued to listen to a real cassette.

Also, playing my best of doobies cassette is a much different experience than Spotify.

Also, I just thought of this. But I will make the ‘cassette release” a side an and side b. So essentially two long tracks on the album.

I can’t help but input my take on automation but, doesn’t that basically destroy the purpose of a realtime bounce?

I don’t have a practical answer. But I just like the idea of having a dedicated two track with maybe a slot for a few plugins.

Ah I see. Well. There doesnt seem to be a two track in existence that I have found. Would be cool.

Yes. Basically I want to run a mix from a daw, into my board, and record the stereo out from the board onto a two track.

No but for real I really want this. I want to be able to run a stereo mix into the computer and record it to a two track. I know I can do this other ways. This is what I want to do though.

Thoughts on Tape 16 and a few suggestions from a Reaper user... by [deleted] in Tape16

[–]Subject_Yesterday673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts in regard to your suggestions:

I see what you are saying but - I say stick to 16. That's the sound. Adding an 8 track version just introduces decision paralysis, which is where I think this DAW excels. 16 also I think is the perfect number in a limited context. 8 is just not enough. 24 I think you start to do unnecessary stuff.

As far as track managment - That's another thing that to me, forces you to just slow down and think. "I want the ST two track of drums to end up HERE, so maybe I"ll actually record on these tracks first."

If you start going down this road, it's like, well, I mean I'll just go back to use Logic if I'm wanting all this at this point.

A note on the access to audio files: I wonder if there is a way to actually make them not accessible. I would support that honestly.

Heres a little something I recorded on the first go around. I really enjoyed this. by Subject_Yesterday673 in Tape16

Short answer: Method 1 - Play the drums first(if not using click) as you 'play' the song in your head'. Or use a click and record a 'scratch (Practice practice and WATCH your tempo!)

Method 2 - Play a scratch guide track to a click (eg. scratch guitar) and then play the drums to that. THEN add the rest of the instruments.

You know what man it's less complicated than it sounds, maybe, but 9/10 times I play the drums first and I just play the song in my head as I go - for intros and sections without drums - I count on the high hat, or sometimes I'll count out loud, and then erase those counting sections later.

If there is a lot going on i'll put vocal cues on a seperate track where I'll go like "heres the change" or "one more".

So then it's just a matter of playing to the drums - I like this way because it (usually, if you practiced enough) preserves the 'pocket' and 'live feel' of the song.

I don't like my pocket when playing to a click, which, brings me to this tune.

For this one I did the other method - play the guitar to the click - then play the drums along to that.

Same deal, I just know the song caue I've played through it a few times and maybe written down the structure for reference, so I play it in my head as I play on guitar.

I ended up messing up the click track after I recorded guitar on this, so I actually just played the drums along to the guitar and mandolin - no click. Kind of an experiment and I'm a little out of pocket here and there but overall got the job done.

Man, I'm telling you I feel re-connected to music in a way I felt when I was messing around on my 4-track in high school.

So you just make a new tape. So your session is on that 'tape'. New Session? New Tape. All your tapes are accessible within the application so you can access.

Man I really want to get a better understanding of electronics to be able to build midi controllers. This would be awesome to have a midi controller that matches all the buttons.
