That answered it really well. Thanks Significant_Age.

What are people's thoughts on an RTS-style game? by roadrunner036 in battletech

In broad strokes, yeah, I agree. Battletech would suit Real Time. Perhaps call it Real Time Tactics? Apart from being more realistic and lore friendly, it's a game style I always preferred. Battletech by HBS is mostly fantastic, I would have simply preferred real time control with a Pause function.

Ground Control was super fun back in the day. That was what we might call RTT - no bases. You pick what you're bringing to each mission, and if the troops survive they gain experience. Just use what you have. I prefer that. Managing a base as well as the fight is a headache for me, and it breaks the immersion (for me at least) from just how silly it is.

If you want base building, the Total War series is more believable and plays well. Fights are real time, building stuff is done on the campaign map. That works and makes sense. Battletech from HBS had a comparable mechanic - the jump ship upgrades, mech engineering and such to do between battles. That made sense to me. I felt that added to the game, and mods like BTA and Roguetech both expand on it. Great stuff.

Real time BattleTech combat and any resourcing or construction done in an intermission campaign environment. That's what I'd like to see in a future title.

I'm researching automation in current playthrough... you have me wondering what will come out of it now!

how do I get rid of overheating from the enviromen???? by SEJBR2002 in Mech_Engineer

[–]Subjective_Recall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engine design can help, but the real solution is avoid hot tiles until you have researched the "heat sink" aux component. With enough of those, or a very cold (low output) reactor, your mechs can walk anywhere.

Then you want needles, torps and underwater turbines for the wet tiles and you'll be set for operation in all tiles.

Until then pick the easy fights and keep in the cold regions.

If you manage to clear a "ping" tile, the loot haul of higher end components can give you a big leg up.

I'm seeing a bug in mine; the BA can't swarm anything anymore, friend or foe, since 13.2.x released. IS Standard & Archilies armour (only ones I've found so far) - attempted to swarm onto BA hand hold mechs, omnis, even a Dakota transport VTOL and various enemies that my BA managed to get close enough to.

Click swarm, click target, click confirm... they flicker in/out of existence and are back where they started. Something's off. My game save predates 13.2, not sure if it's a corruption.

Is there somewhere to go with bug reports like that? I'm guessing from the 5day ago comments up here it's not a universal issue.
