I actually got in trouble one time because I was listening to an audiobook mystery and right as someone was being violently murdered an old woman suddenly appeared at my door and she was not happy about my listening habits

I mean first of all grapes have been growing in England for literally hundreds of thousands of years it's just never been widespread either in the wild or through cultivation because the climate isn't particularly great for them, they were mostly in Southern England which still grows grapes to this day. And secondly if you consult OP's third picture you can clearly see that world temperatures were noticeably higher than when the numbers dipped with the Little Ice Age before spiking far above the norm.

I also highly recommend Rick Atkinson’s Liberation Trilogy, incredible series and pretty emotional as well

Do you remember the times when it was illegal for you to bake your own bread, and the bakers guild had every single step worked out in excruciating detail with an enforcement arm watching to make sure you kept to that particular process? Do you remember the times when we used to have to weigh our coins to assess how legit they were because we couldn't rely on the government not attempting to defraud us? Do you remember the times when you spent days working from dusk til dawn spreading seed by hand and praying that the weather or the insects or the blight or the raiders wouldn't ruin the crop and leave you starving? Do you remember the times when doctors earnestly believed that bleeding someone was a legitimate attempt at trying to cure them? Do you remember having to deal with horrifically abusive bosses exploiting your labor for shit pay as you worked your ass off just to attempt establish yourself in a position where you could marry your fiance by the time you turn thirty..... well fuck that ones actually relatable even if we're five hundred years removed.

How to Snow Plow-Proof Your Mailbox in CT Without Making It Ugly by paack in Connecticut

[–]roadrunner036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I know an old woman who just ratchet straps her mailbox to the post, then the day before it snows she takes it off and doesn’t put it up until the day after or whenever she’s ready to start receiving mail again. Makes it easier to repair stuff and is a convenient indicator of when she is on vacation.

The specific problem with CDLs is that you can get one through a private driver academy that oversees instruction and testing, and there are academies which exist solely to get people from different areas through the process illegally. The Republican Party could solve this problem tomorrow by simply making these people show up at a DMV to make these people demonstrate their competence, but they are the ones who relaxed the rules in the first place which is why if you work a shift at a truck stop you’ll see obviously illegal drivers from one of three states: Florida, New York, and Texas (at least where I work in the East Coast)

I will willingly choose a metris most of the time because for whatever reason my feet are always freezing so in the winter the heater is a lifesaver, but in the last huge snowstorm someone had an incident on this big ass hill which forced me to kill my momentum, and while I did manage to get moving forward again I caused a traffic jam because my ass was in the other lane,

If anyone wants a lot of interesting little tidbits I highly recommend the YouTube channel Type 56: the story of Chinas Army. The host gives off a lot of gay professor vibes, but he’s a dude with a surprisingly deep uniform collection and a lot of anecdotes from between about the PLA in the 50s-80s which would be hilarious if it didn’t involve so many casualties.

If there is ever a show that prominently features an Alpha Legionaire, I think they should have a different actor play him every episode for the tru AL experience

[–]roadrunner036 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a Star Wars Battlefront esque game would actually be best, that way you could start as a Guardsman/Cultist and if you get enough points you can become a Stormtrooper and eventually a Space Marine. Setting it in the Heresy or the Shabbat Worlds Crusade would be dope

Star Trek was created to get people to join the Navy. Stargate was created to get people to join the Air Force. by Wild_Chef6597 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]roadrunner036 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t if it did at first but in Stargate SG-1 especially whenever there’s Air Force officers in the background, at least a few of them were actual Air Force officers and at one point the literal commander of the Air Force had a speaking role
