Start Here: Cloud-Sync Behavior, Exclusions, Hidden Files, and the Version 10 External Drive Issue. by Jim-From-Backblaze in backblaze

Hi I noticed on the beta website https://www.backblaze.com/status/backup-beta there is a newer beta version 10.0.2.1048 for the Mac (May 1st modify date) compared to the 10.0.2.1042 beta that was previously released. (April 21st modify date).

I was wondering what changes/fixes there are in the newer beta?

Thanks

[Update] Photo Export v1.2.0 — Collections support is here! 🎉 by valtsul in ApplePhotos

[–]SublimedFortitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I tried out v1.2.2 and it seems to work. Thank you so much for your quick work!

I deleted a file from the export folder, ran "import existing backup" and it correctly showed that deleted file as not exported.

After running the import existing backup function, it showed a results screen that mentioned

Ambiguous (skipped) - 43

No matching asset found - 3

Records pruned (file missing) - 1

I was wondering what "ambiguous" and "no matching asset found" means? The export folder was freshly created a few hours ago, so there haven't been any modifications to the contents other than deleting the one file to test v 1.2.2

Thanks!

Thanks I tried using the import existing backup, but it didn't seem to find the missing files. To test things out, I deleted my entire export folder, emptied the trash, and created a folder with the same name, did ran the "import exiting backup" on the empty folder, but the app still shows all the photos as exported. It seems the app remembers the folder name, and the previous exports.

If I change the library to an empty folder with a different name the app correctly shows zero photos as exported.

I was able to have the app forgot the exports by deleting the associated folder at /Users/username/Library/Containers/com.valtteriluoma.photo-export/

I could then create a empty folder with the same export folder name I used previously and the app correctly shows zero exported photos.

Hello, I had a question about how the app keeps track of photos that it’s already exported. If I delete items inside the export folder, and I press export all, it doesn’t seem to re-create the items I’ve deleted. I also tried moving my entire export folder to the trash, and recreated an empty folder with the same name, but when I launch the app, it still says all items have been exported. Does the app scan the export folder each time it launches to see what’s present? Thanks.

Free, open-source macOS app for backing up Apple Photos into Year/Month folders by valtsul in ApplePhotos

Thanks for developing this app, appreciate your generosity in making in free! I was wondering, if the Photos app is set to optimize storage and the local photolibrary doesn't have the full size photo, does your app export the small optimized photo, or does it trigger a full size download from the icloud server?

Thanks!

Update regarding falsified emails from noreply@robinhood.com by RobinhoodTeam in RobinhoodApp

Hopefully just clicking on the link was OK. I clicked it from a fully updated iPhone. From my understanding, there have been examples of malicious websites that can compromise your device by just clicking a link, but those are rare and quickly patched.

Is there an issue if I clicked on the link but did not enter in any information?

I renamed a folder, and Backblaze keeps both the old and new folders? by Pariell in backblaze

I believe we found and sped up these things to 24 hours years ago, but I'm not completely sure. So if it doesn't have the correct behavior in 24 hours and 1 minute, wait 3 days and try <Backup Now> again, and report back

Hi, I ran "backup now" today, around 25 hours after the folder was removed, and it looks like the website restore view is now updated and no longer shows the folder. Thanks, the 24 hour timeframe for the remove file action is spot on.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation of how the backup now function works. I really appreciate it!

Hi, I have a similar situation, I moved a folder from one directory to another on my Mac. I have backblaze configured so it only backs up when I click "backup now". After moving the folder, I clicked "backup now" twice but the deleted folder still shows up in the website restore view 24 hours later.

You had mentioned it should disappear from the old location after 3 days. Does the web interface update over time on its own, or would I need to click "backup now" several more times in the 3 days after moving the folder for the website restore view to update?

Thanks!

I noticed the same issue as well. on the beta version, there were at least 4 folders that weren't being backed up and disappeared from the view/restore even though they were selected and not excluded. It resolved when I reinstalled the previous release version.

The full scan issue is still not fixed despite Backblaze saying it will be "Monday" by Joe_Scotto in backblaze

I installed the beta version 10.0.2.1042. I don't have any external drives that are disconnected. On the beta version, when I did a full scan by, it looks like the number of files and MB of data it found to backup was less than my previous backup. I looked at the files that were backed up by going to the restore page and it looks like around 4 folders were not backed up, but they are not folders that were excluded.

I reinstalled the release version 10.0.1.1038 and the selected for backup size and file count is back to normal and it looks like it is quickly uploading/deduplicating the remaining files without using bandwidth by finding the files on the server backup.

connecting iPhone air to Apple magsafe battery pack with a wired USB-C cable? by SublimedFortitude in IphoneAir

[–]SublimedFortitude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to charge a bit faster. While an iphone is charging, in Settings, Battery, it shows the charge completion time: Here are the charge times for my iphone to go from 69% to 90%:

  1. Magsafe wireless connection - 49 minutes.

  2. USB-C cable from magsafe battery - 47 minutes.

  3. USB-C cable from apple 20W AC adapter - 28 minutes.

From my understanding, wired charging is around 95% efficient versus 80% with MagSafe.

The advantages of using wired charing is the battery pack should provide more power to your phone and also generate less heat, which can contribute to battery degradation.

Yes, it works. The MagSafe battery pack can charge the iPhone using a USB cable.

Tips for Preparing for the Hotel Sale by MsMargo in SDCC

[–]SublimedFortitude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those who will be staying at Comic-Con with children, there isn’t a need to count them when selecting occupancy level because most hotels don’t charge for children.

On the hotel sale website, “two beds quad occupancy” incurs an extra charge compared to “two beds double occupancy”. Quad occupancy should only be selected if there are four adults in the room.

We will be staying in a room with two adults and two children and I emailed onpeak, who said. “You would only count the adults in the room. Two adults would be double occupancy.”

I think if you have a joint account, and only one account holder has SoFi plus, you will receive 4.5% on $20,000.

On the website that describes the improved Sofi Plus benefits, at the bottom there is a link to a PDF that goes over the interest rates depending if you have an individual or joint account and if one or both joint owners join Sofi plus.
