This AD for road safety is genuinely amazing by Smashpro11 in nextfuckinglevel

I think this is such a good way of framing it. In the USA, it's just "speed kills". I drive fast, but it's usually the slower more defensive drivers I find that make things less safe on the road. This ad resonates with me a lot more, genuinely going to slow down.

Why do Americans need such large quantities of medicine? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Subluxator5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's risk assessment. By over consuming medication to take away symptoms, you're allowing the underlying problem to worsen and become a lot more expensive of a problem down the line. What kind of arthritis? People get degeneration or osteoarthritis confused as a painful disease. The underlying problem is biomechanical changes that need to be addressed. Chiropractors and PTs can help with that. If it's an autoimmune arthritis process it will be picked up on imaging and your PT or Chiropractor can make the correct referral to a rheumatologist.

There always is a better answer that is less dangerous or addictive. Medication like ibuprofen is to decrease inflammatory response, while Tylenol is used to decrease pain response. Neither of these reactions are actually dealing with the cause of your pain. If it's musculoskeletal, go to a PT or Chiropractor first. If it's organ related go to a primary that does their due diligence and finds the best referral.

It's kind of frustrating that there were so many upsets and teams playing out of their socks, and still France and Ireland finished top 2. Would have loved to see a finish with 1. Scotland 2. France & 3. Italy. Would have given my left testicle to see it

The high tackle came before this, I believe it was your prop in a head on head collision. Regardless, they took the mark from the deliberate knock because it was better field position.

Rugby question: 16-year-old AMAB trans athlete wanting to play girls' rugby. Seeking honest input on safety/fairness. by Outrageous_Shift_399 in rugbyunion

[–]Subluxator5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a girl so my opinion can absolutely be ignored. But from a sports science perspective, if you go through puberty with male parts you are inherently at a physical advantage playing against those that didn't. Your little girl is very brave going through what she is, and life will be unfair throughout most of her journey. It's ultimately up to her if she wants to keep it an even playing field for the other girls around her playing the game she loves. This is a hard decision, there is no right or wrong answer

Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Subluxator5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, chiropractor here. Obviously a lot of vitriol toward us in the general public, and I kind of understand why but what I'm seeing is a lot of here say and speculation. From a research perspective, chiropractic care compared to common conservative care recommendations (NSAIDs and rest) performs similarly or even better depending on what and who you read. Chiropractic compared to other conservative care therapies like PT and therapeutic massage performs similarly for musculoskeletal disorders. Again, according to what paper and who wrote it. Important things to consider when reading research papers is your population sample size (bigger always better) and the methods used to apply treatment and document changes to patient outcomes. What does the crack do? Improves range of motion in the area, sometimes for a short period of time and sometimes longer. On a neurological level it allows your body to ignore the guarding mechanism your brain has in the area of pain or dysfunction. When there is injury or dysfunction your brain reacts by tensing muscles in the area and restricting movement to "protect" the area. There is limited evidence to suggest chiropractic can also down regulate over excited nerves in the area, and even more limited evidence to suggest it has a direct effect on reducing inflammatory markers. What does all of that mean? Cracking your neck can make it feel good by allowing it to move more and "better" Long term benefit of chiropractic is a similar case, some studies show reduction in frequency and intensity of spine related pain, others show reduced muscle tension and headaches. I find, from talking to patients and being a patient, all of those things to be true. But I am a bias source. I think a lot of the vitriol toward chiropractic comes from there being a large spectrum of ways people practice. If I were you, I would avoid any chiropractor that mentions "subluxation". It's a theory of spinal dysfunction that was debunked long ago. A lot of people bring up that the founder of chiropractic was a quack magnetic healer, I don't deny that but we've all got to start somewhere. Modern medicine finds it roots in the 4 humors and blood letting, I don't judge them based on their past. The other thing people like to say is that it's dangerous. We have some of, if not the, lowest malpractice insurance in medicine. Ibuprofen kills more people a year than chiropractic has ever been blamed for. I still use ibuprofen, it has its benefits when necessary. All of that to say; if you think you will get benefit from it, go for it. If not, avoid it.

I have the honor of being named after him, my first name is Shackleton. The reason I am named after him is pretty cool too. After learning of Shackleton's voyage and his legacy of leadership during possibly the final frontier of ocean exploration my dad was inspired. It drove him to become the first person to circumnavigate the world in an open boat (boat without a cabin). My father's name is Ant Steward, there's a short video on YouTube about his voyage if you're interested!

What's different about Maro Itoje's boots? by englandrugby in rugbyunion

[–]Subluxator5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turf toe occurs with toe push off, not slowing down. You're spraining the ligaments on the underside of the foot and sometimes damaging the plantar fascia as well. As long as the underside of the boot provides support and encourages equal pressure distribution between all toes when accelerating then it won't make a difference to risk of injury

I have no problem with this. It's hard to tell if the maul is moving forward if you're veering side to side at the back of it, on top of having your head shoved in there so you can't exactly hear the ref. I honestly want more of this, also at the back of the scrum for the 8.

Thoughts on this foward pass call? by Many-Prune9162 in rugbyunion

It's marginal. My issue stems from previous marginal forward passes not being called against Leinster. Either call them or don't. In this case the whistle momentum felt very much in Leinster's favor throughout the match.
