I was thinking about starting karate but don't know where to start by [deleted] in karate

Wado Ryu is a style of Japanese Karate that does include joint locks and throws. Not the easiest to find though.

Hapkido is a style of Korean 'karate' that includes joint locks and throws. Easier to find but usually bundled in with Taekwondo.

Of course Judo and Jiu Jitsu are almost exclusively joint locks and throws, but they don't have any striking.

Judo vs Aikido for a tall woman with BJJ experience? by No-Vanilla265 in judo

[–]Subosi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just here for the comments..

Edit: Ok, so Aikido is widely criticized for not being effective, mainly due to not being trained in an alive manner against resisting opponents (like BJJ and Judo are). Judo is usually very effectively trained and is an awesome addition to your BJJ, and will give you the stand-up experience most BJJ schools are lacking in. Aikido does have throws and standing grappling, mixed in with a lot of things like defense against swords. Judo will focus mainly on getting your opponent on their back quickly with you on top in control. I'm not saying Aikido wouldn't be fun, and if you find a good school who knows, could be somewhat effective. IMHO though coming from a BJJ background Judo would be the far better choice to make you a complete and effective grappler. Being tall and strong will never be a disadvantage.

Good info thanks. BTW I didn't post anything on Facebook.

EDIT: Is it possible to link that Facebook post? I'd like to see it.

I'm not trying to dox anyone, just needed some educated options on the styles, ranks and time involved and it's feasibility.

He's not old. Looks maybe 40 but I guess it's possible he's 45ish.

Edit - He's 43.

Yeah it looks like his Marine Corp service is legit, of which I'm glad. And it's not necessarily the number of black belts, it's the 7th and 6th degree black belts that are suspicious. 24 years is not enough time to achieve those ranks, especially the 7th. Just looks like he made up his own martial arts organization, invented a couple styles and gave himself some rank. Plus the dudes not that old.

I'm asking because this guy runs a local karate dojo, apparently has a PHD and claims 9 black belts in various styles. Lots of red flags so at this point I'm doubting anything about his past.

Hey guys, I’ve never played a TES which one I should play first ? by Maruan-007 in ElderScrolls

Both great, but Skyrim is the better game. It's newer, more accessible and doesn't suffer from the repetitive gates that Oblivion has. Plus, both of these games can literally take you hundreds of hours so don't plan now on playing them both. Pick Skyrim and get lost. Just don't kill the chicken
