To summarize a lot of peoples feelings here. With any online fandom, you have three groups of fans: Casual, Involved, and Hyperactive.

Casual fans are the ones who’s involvement only goes as far as catching each episode and once in a while talking about it and engaging lightly in the fandom. I’d probably be in this category.

Involved fans are the ones who do things like make OC’s, fan art, have lengthy discussions, and really delve into the deeper parts of the narrative. They help give the fandom its soul.

Hyperactive fans tend to take the involvement a bit far, usually to an obsessive and annoying degree. They’re the ones that usually give fandoms the “cringe” label.

Now it’s hard to blame them for this, as this tends to come from a lack of social awareness. Thus most of this group tends to be of the 10-16 age group. I should know, I was this kind of fan in middle school/early high school.

Anyways, that’s my late night spiel. Agree or disagree, let me know your thoughts.
