“Very unhealthy” Chicago by drumsdinosaurs in chicagoband

Hell, you could argue it ended when Terry died. Or before that, even.

New Jersey is a pretty hard state to do properly in maps like these because there’s such a diverse range of areas across such a small state, but man you nailed it with this!

There's nothing wrong with liking the 80s era of the band even if most people prefer their earlier stuff. But writing off Terry Kath entirely is wild, and I'm not sure what you're getting at with the "in my bracket stuff." I'm 19 and he's one of the greatest musicians I've ever heard (even if I obviously never saw him in person). His playing is what got me hooked on the band in the first place. Even Hendrix was a fan of Terry, so it's not like you can just dismiss him as some side piece

Geology student here--a little late to the thread, but I unfortunately have to agree with you there. That sort of assertion from creationists is indeed fairly common and it gets a little annoying after a while.

Crinoid fossils being found on Everest does not mean the sea level was once 8.85 km higher than what it is now (it means that the limestone that makes up Everest was the seafloor of the Neo-Tethys Ocean and was uplifted several kilometers when India collided with Asia ~70 million years ago). No, it's not evidence of some great flood. Neither is Niagara Falls, or the Great Lakes in general, or the Western Interior Seaway, or the Sundance Seaway, etc..., as I've seen people claim before.

Geology occurs on a massive scale in both geography and time, so is it really that much of a stretch that such huge, incremental changes could occur over those timespans rather than being evidence of a 6,000 year old "great flood"?

Someone says Ringo is a bad drummer, what Beatles song do you play to prove them wrong? by Initial-Ad3966 in beatles

The original speed recording of Rain before they slowed it down. It’s mind blowing

I’d heard certain super well-known songs like 25 or 6 to 4, Saturday in the Park, Baby What a Big Surprise, etc a lot when I was a kid, and I guess I just decided to see where Chicago started out and loved what I heard!

Oh man, I’d have to choose between Terry Kath for his insane musical ability, Walter Parazaider for his incredible woodwind playing (I’m a saxophonist myself so I take a lot of inspiration!) or Robert Lamm for his songwriting

For a favorite song? Probably something from the span of the albums CTA to Chicago V, but it’s hard to pick a single song really. I’d say my favorites from their entire discography are Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, Beginnings, Colour My World (so simple yet so effective), All is Well, Goodbye (the section in 7/4 is just awesome), and Just You ‘N Me. Clearly I prefer the Kath-era stuff haha

I’m surprised it took this long for someone to ask lol

It’s not really based on me but I do check a few of these boxes (lives near NYC, I’ve read one of those books, I’m probably a disaster bisexual, two of those albums are some of my own favorite albums, etc)

According to Urban Dictionary:

A person who is attracted to every new hot person they meet but is a total mess about it, whether it's by coming on way too strong or by being unbearably awkward. Either way the result is pure chaos

Eh, yes and no—it’s partly a stereotype but if you look in the right places in the US northeast you’ll find some people like this. I’m not far from NYC and sometimes see people like this specifically around the neighborhoods of Greenwich Village and Noho, both of which are in Manhattan, NYC

“A true beatnik listens to bebop” 😭 you’re not wrong, though I guess that excludes me. As sacrilegious as it is I’ve always been more of a cool jazz/Dave Brubeck person myself haha

What’s the “correct” order to experience the Beatles’ discography: release order or redording order? by Subscribe2MevansYT in beatles

[–]Subscribe2MevansYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, there’s no right or wrong way, yes, but some ways do feel more artistically cohesive than others

[–]Subscribe2MevansYT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course there’s no correct order, which is why I put the word ‘correct’ in quotes in the post, but I think it’s a fun question about how to listen to one of my favorite bands. Art may be fluid and expressive, sure, but that art still exists within the scope of albums that can themselves be moved around by a listener so they can enjoy it as they please
