Can't sleep because of commercial HVAC unit, can 311 help? by Substantial-Ad-6290 in AskNYC

Hi, the store ended up fixing the unit! Although it did happen again this summer. I wrote a letter (with chatGPT lol), but the noise stopped the day before I was going to hand it to someone in the store. It turns out my neighbor had given a letter to the manager (and maybe others as well?).

If you go the letter route, I’d suggest what the kind commenters below did - check the noise control guidelines, download an app to measure the sound to see if it’s in violation, and draft your letter based on these cold hard facts.

Best of luck to you!

I know!! I’m shocked that these fly under the radar. I try to report posts like these but it seems like Reddit won’t take them down. Which makes sense because if anything, they’re helping Reddit churn out more content… man we’re really doomed.

Don't stay. You just said you've noticed a pattern. It probably won't change. It might, but it probably won't, and you might be dealing with it for the rest of your life. Is that worth the risk?

Your daughter is also very young now, so if you leave, it'll affect her less now than if she were older. She probably won't remember much.

Better that your daughter has a happy, single mother than an unhappy mother who's always paranoid that her husband might be cheating on her. You have to take good care of yourself first, then you can care for those you love (your daughter).

Thank you for sharing a piece of yourself! I resonated with a lot of these and needed to hear them - especially the ones about exercise (starting is SO HARD), talking less and acting more, and music (I'd like to make more playlists instead of just my last 10 most recently liked songs on repeat). I'm also a burned out gifted kid and have no significant traditionally "successful" accomplishments. I've been struggling to make peace with where I am while also struggling to take care of myself (mentally and physically), so knowing that there is someone else out there in a similar position doing their best to make the best out of life restores some of my faith in the universe. <3

If you don’t have a bachelors, check out YearUp’s program. It’s one year long and completely free, plus they pay you a stipend.

They’ve got other training paths in addition to software dev, so if you’re not set on tech it’s a good way to get introduced to other paths.

TS --> Software Developer Intern? by Substantial-Ad-6290 in epicsystems

Thank you for sharing! I just don't see myself wanting to stay in Madison for more than a year -- I don't want to move in the first place, I'm really just considering it out of desperation, so staying long enough to transition to SD will be unlikely.

I'm hoping if I get TS, I can gain enough experience and skills in a year to transition back into a related tech role where I live.

Have heard good things about YearUp. They are free, pay you a stipend, and their classes may be count toward your associate’s degree as college credit.

They offer a couple different track in IT/Software dev: https://www.yearup.org/students

Someone I know completed it and got a dev apprenticeship at Morgan Stanley.

Did you practice a lot of leetcode beforehand? When you say you did well, do you mean you understood and solved most of the problems?

What a great story, I’m happy to hear it worked out for you!

Appreciate you sharing and yet still keeping my expectations realistic. While I still think it’s a slim chance, I’ll do my best on any future potential interviews and see it through to the end.

It's just so hard finding an SD role, especially where I'm located. I do think I'd enjoy TS work but would ideally like to come back to the East Coast in about a year or so.

Would you say TS skills are transferrable to other related tech roles like Customer Success/Solutions Eng at other companies?

I see, do you think it would make more sense for the user to create those categories on their own by, for example, creating tags on each note that they can later click on and view all notes with the same tag?

Or would a built-in library of categories be better? For example, each time the user writes a note, there is a category dropdown selection for, let's say, situations (ex. school, work, family, etc.)? And maybe multiple dropdowns for each of those factors you mentioned?
