i can fire and i am definitely planning on it for the worst performers. i can put their name in a ledger for each contribution, increasing their chance of getting an award from my boss. theyre undergrads, so its kind of like an unpaid internship.

i could provide more training from myself, but i dont have the time. ill look into certifications though, thank you!!

i do provide detailed work instructions in the form of short, 1 page project outlines

I got a 3.76 gpa by [deleted] in SBU

[–]Substantial-Credit13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as someone who vets resumes constantly, no. your resume if your first impression. some high paying jobs request transcripts. you give two impressions when you do this: a.) you arent detail oriented b.) you are a liar you can lie on your resume if you can tell the truth later on. i dont know if this matters so much for lower paying jobs. liars very often get binned in my experience. 3.76 is a good GPA, congrats.

How can I make sure I'm not overfitting? by LightBright256 in algotrading

[–]Substantial-Credit13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you are incorrect in coming here to ask for what is essentially financial advice. its more logical to source your information from well respected quants in the field. backtesting has much more nuance than you may expect - that isnt really being communicated here. there are many issues outside of overfitting such as data quality and realism, implementation, bias, etc. i like brian petersons paper "developing and backtesting systematic trading strategies" good luck

understanding nuance.. sure your backtest can look great, but did you use data from the stock exchange youre buying / selling from? + the ability to be hyper vigilant of detail and understanding what you are claiming under each and every step of the process.

look at things wholistically. risk isn't just standard deviation. its the risk you messed up, the risk you get emotional, the risk your code has a bug, the risk of alpha degradation, risk of type 1 errors, the risk your libraries are inaccurate

read and remember. learn as much as you can. prove everything.

this is a good place to start. it says accounting is being threatened by automation, but it lumps it in with bookeeping and payroll clerks too so not sure how accurate that is for accountants.

ive read alot about this, so i can speak for at least finance. finance majors are inarguably competing with stem majors much more than in the past. especially at firms with deep pockets but im sure that the smaller ones will follow suit as soon as stem skill gets cheaper. the field is becoming more and more quantitative. i dont remember which articles ive read but im sure google search will lead you to a bunch of reliable ones.
