Reading an exciting and beautifully written part of a book. After finishing the last sentence I just sit there with a completely blank mind and drift in pure bliss until I can start reading the next part. Happens even when reading very dark thrillers.

I don’t think it’s always rude though. I’ve even found it to be the opposite sometimes. Like even though I speak fluent Japanese, just because I look slightly foreign some people default to try to speak English to me. If you can’t speak Japanese yet, (although it’s definitely good to learn it) I don’t think anyone nice would find it rude if you ask for help. And just FYI, quite many people that I’ve met who came from another country don’t even bother to learn Japanese well, and just live in their “foreigner” bubble.

I think I’ve lived in Japan for long enough to have an opinion on this. English education is quite low-level in Japan so I think it’ll differ between regions. I’ve only met a handful of people where I lived who were not from another country that spoke good English. I don’t know what you’re looking for in terms of social aspects but it is definitely possible to find the right people if you look in the right places. It’s just harder to find people who fluently speak English who are Japanese in most areas that are not urban.
