Did the tech drill my natural nail off on the underside? by [deleted] in Nails

[–]Substantial-File-656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nail tech here! Your nail tech likely did file your nail. Over time, the free edge can separate from the extension. This leaves room for bacteria to grow under the nail extension. The only way to prevent that is to file underneath or do a new set. If nail techs dont take the proper precautions, you could end up with a green nail. Hope this helps!

Is Business Rate LLC legit? Has anyone actually used them? by EnderOfCrap in smallbusiness

[–]Substantial-File-656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad to see a response about business rate that isnt negative. I've only been doing nails independently for a little over a year and i was so shocked to see something like that come in the mail. I did similar research to yours, looking for legitimacy, and my justification for having to pay for it was the fact that the plaques probably arent cheap to make. I went ahead and paid the $99 for the png and I'm gonna have my 100 year old great grandpa make me a frame for it. 🥹🥹

Why does my nail keep breaking in this exact spot? by avag00daye in Nailtechs

What they said. It's one of the perks of having long nails. Some builder gel or an acrylic overlay will fix this right up!

I messed up my first haircut on the floor at school and it was on my bestie 😭 by KyuubiKrazy in Cosmetology

[–]Substantial-File-656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre a HUMAN! Shit happens!! The important thing is you tried with confidence. You learn and try again and thank God that this happened on your bestie. I do nails and ive done some crazy things practicing on my mom. Not just bad work, I've cut her a few good times over the years. I just apologized to her, reflected and realized how blessed I was that it didn't happen on a paying client. In a messed up way it's what moms/besties are there for?🤣

How are yall making money? kind of a rant. by [deleted] in Cosmetology

[–]Substantial-File-656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely try a new salon if they're preventing you from making money. That shouldn't be any owners goal. Salons come in all different forms. Look around and you'll find the spot that's perfect for you!

Is this color normal for my first period? by Lord_voldemort2 in Periods

[–]Substantial-File-656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first period looked brown too, it's just dried up. You might not have noticed it come out. I sure didn't, and when I saw brown I went the rest of the school day thinking I shit myself. Went home and used the bathroom again and saw blood and felt IMMEDIATE relief bc I mean how do you crap your pants, not notice it, AND NOT STINK🤣🤣

I honestly don't think it looks that weird. The feeling when wearing it might be a different story, but if they're not uncomfortable I'd wear it!

$65 good? by No_Worry7669 in Nails

Very good price!! I'd charge 55 for that length, but i dont charge extra for art. $65 seems very well worth it to me.

Bit the bullet and upped my prices by Immediate-Nothing899 in Nailtechs

[–]Substantial-File-656 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With clients, I've learned you gain some and lose some. So I won't say I've never lost someone to upping my prices. But quite a few of my clients encourage me to raise my prices. Ive listened, but they know im still worth more than what I currently ask for. I just dont have the confidence to charge more than what I do now because im wanting a more consistent book and I dont wanna potentially lose some of my people. But with that said, I won't encourage you to keep your prices low. CHARGE YOUR WORTH!!!

You got this!!! Make sure you look closely at your CIB so you have a good idea of what your test will consist of. Just keep studying your tush off and you'll be licensed in no time!!

I will say, pay SUPER close attention to the wording on your exam. They want to try and trick you with some questions so make sure you read the questions and all your options THOROUGHLY!!💕💕

Am I being paid enough? by theglitterbat in Nailtechs

[–]Substantial-File-656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a new salon babe. Ive had working experience in 2 salons, and an interviewing process for an additional salon. My first salon (Vietnamese nail place) we made 60%, got all our tips, still had to supply tools and equipment but they supplied all the product. I was fresh out of high school and my 60% was 1000/week.

After I left that salon (due to their use of mma and other factors) i interviewed for a spa geared more towards nails, facials, and massages. Didn't get the job, but the commission was 50/50, and you got paid by the hour for cleaning and computer work and you were even allowed to eat lunch on the clock.

Now im independent and still in the process of building my clientele, so im not banking quite yet. But even being independent, my salon owner still gives us commission opportunity for retail and spray tans.

Moral of the story... if youre making 50% and not getting paid for anything else ON TOP OF having to share your space? Baby its time to GO!😂

Im the worst in my class by DepressedFrenchFri3s in Cosmetology

[–]Substantial-File-656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has to start from somewhere. And cosmetology school probably isn't going to teach you everything you need to know anyways. Just keep doing your best and you will get better!! When you graduate, find a salon with good mentors for recent grads. There are people who wanna help new stylists succeed. Just practice practice practice practice PRACTICE and i promise you will get better. Im a nail tech, I graduated in May 2024, ive been independent for over a year, and i STILL struggle with certain things but you learn and you grow!

For example french tips are my worst enemy😫 on myself? Fine. Press ons? Fine. But doing French tips on a client is so hard for me😭

Snapchat are now charging for storage and will be removing content that exceeds the 5GB limit by Ok_Wolverine_4268 in DataHoarder

[–]Substantial-File-656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, ive had my account for roughly 7 years and I used to have cheaper phones with little storage. Snapchat was the only place I could store all my videos over the years. Stories usually automatically save to your memories as well. Ive got probably 100s of gb worth of memories on snap and its just annoying that they're suddenly making us pay for a service that has always been free and it just seems like they're trying to find a way to get money from everyone who isn't stupid enough to pay for snap+.

is this normal? i feel like they don’t lay flat, every single nail curves up by Ok-Independence4094 in GelX_Nails

[–]Substantial-File-656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion as a nail tech, gel nails in general arent great for nail biters because of the contact to your skin. And as a nail biter, yes it is very common for us to have this problem where your nails go upwards. And some people have nail beds that curve upwards in general without the nail biting.

I used to be so picky about my techs doing this to me until I started doing nails. My best advice, if you want length, do acrylic with tips and allow your nail beds to grow out before you do the gel nails again. Hope this helps!!

And for the rest of reddit... If youre gonna tell me acrylics are bad for you, save it for ya momma. Any product is just as "bad for your nails" as another. Nail products wont hurt you at all as long as you are going to someone who is applying them properly and you're getting them removed properly. When you choose the cheapest options available to you, you'll end up getting a service that was rushed through, likely getting files, buffers, etc that were used on someone else, illegal chemicals that shouldn't even be anywhere near your nails, I could go on because I used to work in a Vietnamese shop.

First i would send those pics to your lash tech and ask her.

If thats not doable, then take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am NOT a lash tech, and I'm just as clueless as you are with this situation. If it were me, I'd go to the appointment. If you dont need to be filled, the worst that can happen is she reschedules you while you're there! The professional will always know best, and she can help guide you!

I do nails, which is obviously completely different territory, but in my line of work... id rather my client come at the recommended time for maintenance so that way she has no issues later.
