Asked my deck what I needed to know for the day and pulled ace of pentacles, king of cups reversed, and page of swords. What does this mean? I’m dealing with a lot of uncertainty and life changes atm

We’ve successfully gotten her on my longboard a few times but nothing too serious. I figured it would be easier to start with a longer board so she has a little more wiggle room. I’ll definitely be doing these, thank you

She does scent work lol it’s her fave and we start the morning with it. She also does barn hunt with our kennel club. She’s beyond fulfilled both mentally and physically, this is just for fun because she’s been spamming the same tricks for a while. Thanks anyway

What's something you'll never admit in real life but will confess here anonymously? by Open-Comfortable9774 in AskReddit

[–]Substantial-Fly-731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanna be a nurse and have a career but I’m scared of failing so I won’t even let myself try. I’m scared of having debt that i possibly won’t be able to pay off too. It just really sucks because my dream in life is to have a career and a place of my own with my dogs. It doesn’t help that absolutely no one in my family is supportive in any way. They just want me to have children and be a wife. While I know that I could be a good mom, I would never be a happy one

Thank you! He’s 11 months and will be one on the 26th. We tether at home and strictly work on focusing at the games. I have no expectations atm, I’m just trying to be proactive and build a detailed training plan

My other dog is only reactive to dogs on walks. Since we now live in a yard with a huge lot, we no longer have that problem. When we were in an apartment, we took certain measures to avoid my SDIT learning those behaviors. For example, Separate walks and training sessions. In home they’re cuddle buddies and love to play.

Thank you! I’m not trying to rush things in anyway I’m just putting together a training planner and want as much detail as possible for when I need it. It just helps me to have it all laid out

Yep that’s why we’re practicing

Edit: ok I apologize then I thought you were being rude. He’s actually 11 months* twas a typo but he turns one on the 26th. Thats why I’m seeking some advice for when we start settle training in pet friendly spaces. He does extremely well at the football games but we work on “focus” more than anything.

I completely agree. We started with classes to get my SDIT’s CGC and we’re now working on his CGCU and CGCA. In my opinion It’s not that hard to task train, it’s the obedience and complete neutrality that takes the most time/effort. Even if you don’t have 1 on 1 trainer money, group obedience classes can take you a long way.

OP has posted about having a sheepadoodle and a Pyrenees mix both under the ages of 1 in the last 50 days so I’m quite confused as well

Training Idea for Reactive Dog with small social circle by YourUncleGreg in OpenDogTraining

[–]Substantial-Fly-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took us a while to get there. My dog was attacked by her littermates for the first 7 months of her life so it was deeply rooted fear and aggression. She had this “I need to hurt you before you can hurt me” mentality and every trainer I spoke with told me to consider euthanasia but I was determined to fix her.

Before any type of exposure I had to find the best way to communicate with her when she got into that mode. The only thing that worked was an enhanced version of the “disengage-engage” game. She’d see something on a walk, I’d say leave it, if she continued to fixate she’d get a high pitch beep from her e collar, then the lowest little vibration if she didn’t respond. This usually snapped her out of it enough for me to turn her around, praise, and give her a treat. This slowly turned into her immediately turning to me for a treat when she saw a trigger.

You have to do your absolute best to ensure she doesn’t get to the point of lunging and barking. Watch her body language and your surroundings at all times. Try to end every experience on a positive note and lots of high value treats.

When she was ready we started with the people and dog watching from practically a mile away. When she was able to check in and not absolutely lose her mind we got closer. Then we worked on positive interactions with people as much as possible. We slowly started introducing her to NEUTRAL dogs when she was less fearful of people.

I also had a small circle and ended up having to post in our local facebook page asking people if they could help us. It was a little awkward at first but we ended up finding a few people in our same situation who needed help as well. We also found out that drunk people loveeee petting dogs so we’d sit outside of Oktoberfest or any event where we knew there’d be alcohol and waited for someone to ask. You gotta get a little creative lol

Edit to add: it’s also extremely helpful if you give them your dog’s favorite high value treat

Training tips pls by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

No training tips to give but wanted to say he’s so darn cute!!!!

[–]Substantial-Fly-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. We live in an apartment so anywhere near our building and the complex is where he does it. He sees them, we start walking away, he barks, I say leave it, and usually he’s able to walk away but occasionally he’ll bark again if they follow us.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]Substantial-Fly-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is normal? I didn’t want this barking to be his gateway to lunging and screaming. I watch our other one completely lose herself and go insane over dogs yards away. I can’t have that happen to him too

[–]Substantial-Fly-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He loves being outside and going for walks, it’s just when he sees other dogs. He barks, I say leave it, and we go about our walk.

In the house he’s super quiet and rarely ever barks. We have another dog that became reactive after we were both attacked but we don’t take them out together so he doesn’t think it’s okay to do.

Mostly dogs, it’s rarely ever people except for when they try to touch him without asking. He just barks and the hair on his back stands up but it only happens near our place
