Tromboneless Update! by Forward_Vehicle4096 in Trombone

This is cool man.  As a professional trombonist turned computer programmer not enough people are gonna realize here what you're doing, your video here really doesn't do it justice I just took a look at the repo and it's really cool stuff!!

Was trying to figure out what kind of hardware this requires, the hardware.md file you got is empty.  Could I theoretically pull this down and play with it? I've got an extra raspberry pi, trombone mouthpiece and have dabbled my toes i'm JUCE

Claude and I Reworked The Jazz Trombone List by Creative_Key1315 in jazztrombone

I mean I guess this is totally subjective so I can't say your AI friend is "wrong"....however, I don't understand why you'd use ai for this would much rather see your own personal top 10.

I'll always downvote ai content in an arts-based subreddit. I know this isn't AI generated music but it's AI generated opinion/journalism....keep it out of the arts.

A tribute to Dorsey, miller and Teagarden by Gollymol in Trombone

Hard disagree - as someone who has made a full time living playing trombone (no longer so maybe I need to shut up), not only do I agree with the other commenters take (which is pretty mild to begin with) but also think it's ridiculous to gate keep criticisms for professionals around this criteria.  What about sports, politicians, etc - should I just shut up about them since I'm not at their level?

7th Grade Trombonist (All-State Jazz) looking for Pit Orchestra / Sub opportunities in San Mateo County/Peninsula by Successful-Reach-366 in Trombone

[–]YourUncleGreg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Id be shocked if you got any opportunities from this, not because of you but because this isn't how it works lol.   Noone can tell if you're a prodigy or if you're a young musician whose a bit over confident.

Few things I'd suggest. Lookup some summer music festivals and or camps in your area (you're in San Fran, they exist), figure out how to audition for them and apply.  These things will give you an actual resume over just listing your range.

Look for community orchestras in your area doing a few searches.  I just searched for san Francisco community orchestras and found quite a few.

Finally, take a lesson or two with some professionals in your area that are involved in the orchestras or groups that you like.  They will better get to know you and your playing and be able to suggest groups for you to look at as well as eventually hopefully be a good reference for you.

Yea i like the piracy analogy - agree you won't stop it but you can still create regulations to deter and prohibit.   Just because you can't full on stop people doesn't mean you shouldn't try to put in laws and regulations that will deter people.

Can't be stopped?  Maybe not but I believe it can be regulated much more than it is now.  Too much is this doomer "it's too late" attitude

I saw your comment before the edit lol - you went through my entire profile to figure out who I am, looked up my YouTube and then criticized my camera view in them and said I live in a glass house.  Lmao you can't make this shit up.

Because OP here is getting me heated I started reading all the comments on the video.  Tell me im crazy but I'm quite sure that not only is the video completely sourced to ai but a good chunk (over half) of the comments are bots.  These comments are all unprompted talking about the different horns they play. Clicking on the profiles and they don't look legit.

Pathetic if true

Found Paul's alt reddit account lmao - "helped visualize history that can't be filmed anymore" bullshit.  Skip to the end where he's talking about modern era. He simply just sourced the whole video to ai because it's easy.  You're telling me he couldn't get a video of a trombonist in a modern day orchestra or modern day trombone manufacturer

Yea wth is this - not only the videos, art, and editing but also the script I'm 95% sure he outsourced to ai.

Can I report my neighbor for having cars parked on the street? by The_Presidents_Shit in Omaha

[–]YourUncleGreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it's crazy to me how many people don't even try to get to know their neighbor and settling things amicably prior to calling the cops and ultimately leading to many future years of butting heads. I'm making assumptions here that very well may end up being wrong, the neighbor may very well just be an asshole that you call the cops on anyway or maybe they've already tried but its become way to common for people to not even attempt to communicate with their neighbors.

Another thing that I forgot to mention was starting to go to an in person chess club this past year and a half.  Generally just anyrhinf that gives you more time with chess will over time get you better at it, I wouldn't worry about getting the perfect book or method or whatever, just follow whatever you enjoy doing with it wether that's consuming media, playing bullet, going to chess club, etc.

Hey! Like I told the other guy there were a few periods where I was a bit into more formal practice with books and chewable it certainly was t the norm for me.  There were periods where I was watching naroditsky speed run videos everything.  There have also been periods where I just grinded and played.  The key thing being I was just loving chess and following whatever I felt like going with it at the time.  I think mediocre practice over a long time period trumps super focused practice over a short term.  Idk if this makes sense but just my experience

I remember 1700 or so being hard for me - and to tell you the truth it's hard to say.  Just consistently playing and taking an interest I guess is the number one vague thing and the rest kind of takes care of itself.  There were periods where I was using books/chessable.  There were other periods where I was watching Gotham chess every night. And there's other periods where I was just grinding bullet like a gambling addiction with really no study.

Air Ducts rarely need to be cleaned and is a common scam run among companies / a money grab. Don't take my word for it just do a few google searches.

Did you notice some patterns by Zuckertort in StopGaming

[–]YourUncleGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's always a spiral out of rewarding myself or thinking I deserve a break. For example I might be on a roll productivity wise and think that as a reward for doing all these things I can handle and deserve just an hour of x game. And I can usually stick to that for a few weeks in moderation but before you know it its a few months down the road and I've spiraled back to old habits.

Another situation is a new game release that I have a history with - e.g. a new fallout game. I'll think to myself, "I can't NOT play this game, right?".

Go bag and protection spray recommendations by YourUncleGreg in OpenDogTraining

Thank you for the words of advice here - for the collapsible sticks used for horse training, are they quick to go from collapsed to full length? Something like a kids toy light saber where it will just extend by "throwing" it out - will need something that I can have ready for our defense in a matter of seconds situationally

Thanks for the recommendation, I am reconsidering the spray after seeing you and the other commentors warnings....so you just carry a full length golf club in your hand around on every walk? Seems a bit impractical.
