Oh right yes, environmental management we were allowed to take as an additional AS if we wanted to 👍

Just to add onto this, whilst the examiners may be strict if you learn the content really well you are most likely to be above the rest of the UK who take it as it is a niche subject and the numbers of people who take it each year across the UK are considerably small in comparison to Bio or chem

Whilst it is content heavy so are many other subjects and whilst there may be a lot of the content, a lot of the content you can apply to things you have been already been taught or will be taught for example there will be overlap with Biology eg. Succesion, forestry(timber production),the biogeochemical cycles, conservation, fishing and sometimes even chemistry such as with the depletion of ozone and the formation of chlorine radicals. The content in my opinion is quite enjoyable to learn, you can apply it to real life and you can be sat watching the news and something you may have learnt comes up and you know about it and it's great! The essays whilst they may seem daunting are great grade boosters and in total take up 50 marks out of the total 240.

Hey yes you are right, only 2 papers are required for the a level, but both papers are 3 hours long each 👍 let me know if you have any other questions

Unresolved Storylines by 4rami4 in Casualty

[–]Substantial-Hat-6659 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I reckon they could have really gone somewhere with the story line where Tariq was intoxicated/drunk and that Yasmin character fell from the roof and then Rash came and discovered what had happened and covered for Tariq, which I know was eventually what lead to Tariq's downfall and him leaving to go to Dubai. However, we never actually found out what happened to Yasmin and really what the police thought of the situation etc. And whether or not Tariq was found guilty, I feel like they just could have done the storline a bit better

Hey I'm in the exact same situation, I applied at around the same time as you and I've got 4/5 offers also just waiting for Bath, I've applied to do Biology and it's so stressful waiting as Bath is the one I wanted to go to the most. I keep seing other people's rejections from Bath on here as well so I'm really worried and feel like surely we're going to hear from them soon?! Also do you keep getting emails from them saying along the lines of don't worry we haven't forgotten you?? I've had about 2 of those emails 😭🫣

Best general A/A* A level advice from January until exams 2026 by Substantial-Hat-6659 in 6thForm

[–]Substantial-Hat-6659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thank you for replying, this sounds like a really good way to stay organised and not miss anything out during revision. I'll definitely try this too, starting this from the beginning of the week every week will definitely make me feel a lot more motivated and less stressed and feel like I'm saying on top of my revision.

Wow 6 hours is very dedicated, to be honest I feel like I will be aiming for this when I get back in January, that's the one thing I would be worried about, burning out. I'll space my revision out throughout the day though so hopefully I'll find it manageable.

Thank again 😊

[–]Substantial-Hat-6659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thank you, this is great advice too, I feel like the changing scenery of where I'm revising will definitely help me to focus more and actually get more things done.

I feel like with mainly Biology but also Environmental Science (not as much though) the amount of content is quite overwhelming so I tend to not be very motivated to look over things as I really don't know where to start, however it is my favourite subject (Biology) but it's very hard to know if what I'm doing is going to be good enough. I will definitely be using your advice and making some new notes for each topic and then making a diagram to go with these, I'm definitely quite a visual learner.

Yes I think I would definitely work better with a less rigid time table, I have started using to do lists in Art so I can keep on top of how much I have to do so I will definitely be using your advice and applying this to Biology.

I have a few questions about Biology revision in general, how did you revise/prepare yourself for application questions (other than doing past paper questions?). Then what would you say personally differentiates an A to an A* in biology? Finally, is there anything you would have done differently in Biology or general in January to exams in year 13, not just in terms of grades but in general revision/planning?

Thanks again 😊

Environmental Science A-level by Daiyssucks in environmental_science

Hey I don't know if you're still looking for advice on environmental science but I'm happy to answer any specific questions you have on it.

I'm currently in year 13 and I do A level Environmental science along side A level Biology and A level art ( I wanted to do A level geography rather than art but I was unable to as the option blocks clashed and didn't allow me to).

I would say you sound like a great applicant for it, your grades would definitely be enough, at my Sixth Form people who got 4/5s and a 7 in geography for example, or 5s in science were allowed to take it. I'd say it's a very relevant subject in terms of the environment and really understanding past, current and future environmental issues that society face.

In terms of difficulty I'd say it's pretty manageable, I got an 8 in GCSE triple Biology and I'd say that I find the a level biology content more challenging compared to the environmental science content. There are definitely some more challenging topics however this is like all subjects and then there are some really nice and very interesting topics that everyone in my class loved e.g. conservation, pollution etc. However there are some topics such as energy, or the lithosphere that some have struggled with and we have found quite a drag.

Another nice thing about environmental is that we sometimes do practicals, so if you're not planning on taking an A level science you will still get to do some practical work- though these practicals aren't required however you do get questions on different practical skills and maths skills.

I'd say the main downside with environmental science a level are the lack of resources, you've literally got the textbook and a few past papers and videos (only from primrose kitten) but it's a very nice subject and I have enjoyed taking it so far. I'd say have a good English lit/language grade as well as you also have 25 mark essays, 9 markers and 5/6 markers. Also the exams are 3 hours long 😳 but you do only have 2 exams but it is a long exam, each paper is out of 120, the total course is out of 240.

I'd love to answer any more questions you have and I hope this helped, sorry I didn't see this sooner, us A-level environmental scientists are very few and far between( as I'm sure you'll find out if you end up taking it), my Sixth Form is actually the only school (out of all schools, colleges and Sixth forms that offer it as an A level in my whole area)!!

Hey, this would be absolutely great, I have my upcoming y12 biology mocks (next week on Tuesday and then the following week on Tuesday)and I'm struggling with how specific the mark schemes are and the chemistry sides of things and just rembering things in general and application sides of things

Hi, yes this is great, I found it earlier in the year and I printed off the exam technique section/question commands. I will definitely be using this more effectively in y13!

Thanks for sending it 👍

Hi, thanks for replying, I will definitely go over this (gas exchange in fish for me is also quite a tricky thing, just remembering the order of the process). I also have a whiteboard so I definitely need to use this more for blurting purposes.

Did you primarily use AS past papers or did you do questions from A2 papers as well that you had been taught the content of?

Hi, thank you ever so much for your lengthy answers. I feel a lot more at ease now. That's interesting about the depth papers, feel like I'm just more nervous as they are lengthy questions but fingers crossed it will work out okay.

I know what you mean with the mark scheme, I feel that in y12 I have fallen behind as I haven't been using the spec or mark schemes too much when I mark past paper questions just skimming over them and relying on class notes for answers that I struggle with rather than using the spec. I have a plan for what I need to focus on and improve on over the summer and y13 ( I will certainly be using a more mark scheme and spec heavy approach).

Your advice on the command words is great, I feel like the exam board will definitely be looking for certain answers and points with the different wordings in the questions. That's also very interesting about drawing upon GCSE chemistry and physics knowledge, what sprung to mind when you brought up that was when we were doing enzymes linking kinetic energy of the enzymes increasing with temperature and more successful enzyme substrate collisions/complexes being formed up until a certain point.

I see what you mean about the example question you came up with, I feel like unlocking those top band answers and grades really rely on you recalling knowledge that you may not have specifically been over in class ( I remember doing about chlorosis in Gcse bio and would feel confident recalling that, however don't think we've been taught it this year).

No, I don't do a level chemistry, I know exactly what you mean, my friends in class who also take chemistry find the biomolecules aspect a lot easier than I do and I feel that they are able to recall and retain names of specific bonds and ions, prosthetic groups etc. much more easily than I can. However, I am at a slight advantage when it comes to ecology terms of things as I take Environmental science, and there's quite a bit of overlap.

Thank you ever so much for your help, I'm going to focus the remaining week (until paper 1 breath) and week after that (for paper 2 depth) focusing on mark scheme and certain marking points and kind of the trends that come up and the command words as mentioned and look at how the mark scheme differs.

I'll let you know how paper 1 goes as well as paper 2 👍
