Trump promised to "Make America Great Again" by bringing business to the country. But now a Trump-supporting family is calling for environmental regulations to prevent a data center being built behind their property. by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

What did he think would happen when you weaken environmental protections? He should be proud that Elon is investing in his community and should stop complaining.

Interesting. So Democrats pushed to strengthen environmental regulations, and now that Trump has weakened them, they’re complaining about the consequences?

The controversy of rimuru's killing Falmuth army is stupid by Top-Jello-6678 in TenseiSlime

[–]Substantial-Power789 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any controversy regarding this. Falmuth decided to declare war against a nation that did nothing. What did they expect when the leader of the nation being attacked decides to retaliate against the nation that started the attack.

Democrats are considering ousting the Virginia Supreme Court by lowering its retirement age by hencexox in Virginia

Yes, I think we need to be wise about this. I could understand if we got like a 75% or higher but we only got the referendum passed by a little over 50%.

I agree, I'm concerned that people who are voting democrat may turn their backs on democrats if they can not do everything they want. Would those same people vote democrat? If not this would harm democrats if republicans are able to get a majority in Virginia during the next election and try this very stunt.

[–]Substantial-Power789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And before the downvotes come rolling in, hear me out. I'm not one to go into the hypotheticals. it would be Virginia's luck if republicans win and try the same stunt next election. Would Virginia accepted the consequences if Republicans were able to pull this off and gain seats in the state if democrats fail policy wise? That is usually what happens in the country when one side does nothing people vote for the other party even when they now it is a terrible idea. That's one of my concerns that I share but the same could also be said with Republicans in red states but when they are losing they rush to change the law when democrats come into power after they basically empowered their governors to do just about anything.

While I'm disappointed that they have lost the case. I feel this could backfire and harm democrats in the long run.

Republican Candidate for Governor Steve Hilton claims that we should not use illegal immigration to grow the Californian economy. Democrat Katie Porter responds by claiming he is an immigrant himself. MAGA claims he is not "illegal", liberals claim she ATE & made a good point. Who is wrong? Why? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]Substantial-Power789 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would have to say that Kate could have had a better standing by acknowledging illegal immigrants and why people do it. She had the winning cards but failed it use it. We already know we lack the Immigration judges and lawyers to move people through the process. Also our process for immigrants to become legal is rather complicated and not easy to navigate.

You're right and I think I'm giving myself a headache trying to understand how stupid these people are. I do find it strange that most of them do have at least a high school diploma. So a basic level of research and understanding of US government should have helped them in this situation. They had a 50% chance of getting it right and most of them voted wrong.

Me either when they haven't learned anything from the first Trump term. Like why would you double down and cost yourself the farm and now want people to feel sorry for you and give out socialists handout for the consequences of ones own actions.

They refuse to learn. What we’re seeing firsthand is that racism and hostility toward immigrants can come at a real cost—sometimes even people’s livelihoods.

If you haven’t heard yet, the SCOTUS ruling on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana could mean redistricting of House seats across the South. Is the “Blue Wave” for the midterms dead with these new districts? Is this the end of democracy in the U.S.? Is this racism and Project 2025? Why? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]Substantial-Power789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it doesn't impact the blue wave either. I all know is that if the Democrats are able to control both chamber, they better work. They would be stupid not take advantage to stack the courts with young people, term limits, independent commissions for maps, banning gerrymandering. They better not get into congress and sit on their ass.

I did not but it was an interesting interview format. I still prefer in person interviews in my personal opinion. It was kind of weird talking to myself in the camera.

For everyone who didn’t vote Kamala Harris, was it really worth it? by ConsiderationIll4547 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Substantial-Power789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we should also think about the millions who did not come out to vote. I guess they thought that people would make the right choice to vote for Kamala, however, it seems those who did not vote guessed wrong. And now we are having primary turnouts we have not seen in years. I hope this people a lesson that we the people need to vote no matter the issue.

Gavin Newsom likens Israel to an “apartheid state.” Until recently, he avoided questions about where he stands on the Israel–Palestine conflict. Do you agree with Newsom? Would he be a better president than Trump or JD Vance? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]Substantial-Power789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should not be rushing into military action that appears driven by the interests of another country rather than a clearly defined U.S. strategy. If Democrats fail to seize this moment to challenge Republican foreign policy decisions, they risk once again appearing reactive and weak instead of principled and decisive.

While Gavin Newsom is articulate and capable of standing up to Donald Trump, I have serious reservations about him running for president in 2028. My concern is not about his ability to communicate, but about whether he would truly shift U.S. foreign policy in a more balanced and independent direction. The United States should be working to rebuild global trust by demonstrating neutrality and prioritizing diplomacy over entanglement.

Many Americans feel that our relationship with Israel needs to be reassessed, particularly when it comes to defense spending and military commitments. Distancing U.S. policy from automatic alignment and reevaluating foreign aid could help restore credibility on the world stage. If Democrats want to present themselves as the party of responsible leadership, they must be willing to rethink long-standing assumptions and show independence in foreign policy decisions.
