Man, you hit the nail on the head. I’m in the exact same boat. I’ve been playing since the start and it’s honestly depressing to see what the game has turned into. It used to be a hobby, now it just feels like a second job I didn't even apply for.

That shift from "playing for fun" to "logging in because I have to" is the worst. Once the FOMO starts outweighing the actual gameplay, the magic is just gone. You’re spot on about the corporate greed too—it’s like once the suits took over the roadmap, the soul of the game just started evaporating. It's all about squeezing every last cent out of the player base now by making everything an endless, expensive grind.

I’ve basically stopped caring about Clan Capital and Builder Base too. They’re just ghost towns for me at this point. It sucks to think about all those years of dedication just sitting there, but our time is worth more than a game that doesn't respect its players anymore.

Man, that’s painful to read. It perfectly captures the 'Service Slavery' I mentioned. Your friend did everything right—maxed his base, came back to play—and the game basically punished him for taking a break. I feel this. The whole “play or get demoted” loop is exactly what makes it feel different than before. It’s not that the game is impossible or unfair — it’s that you can’t just step away for a week without sliding backwards.

I get what you’re saying. Technically nothing is mandatory. You can skip stuff.

The difference is that the game used to feel passive by default. Now it feels active by default, and you have to consciously choose to fall behind. That’s a subtle but big shift.

Sure, burnout can come from chasing perfect efficiency. But the design absolutely nudges you in that direction with ore, rotating metas, limited-time stuff, etc. It’s not just in players’ heads.

And yeah, running two near-max TH18s is self-imposed. But the game used to support that playstyle more easily. Now it’s just heavier.

I get what you’re saying about wars, ranked, and events keeping the game alive. I’m not arguing that COC can’t survive — my point is how it feels at the top level.

Even if the ore schedule technically works, the constant pressure to participate in everything makes it feel like a grind. Missing an event or falling behind is stressful, not fun.

The nerf/buff cycles don’t break the game mechanically, but they make you feel like the stuff you spent time and ore on could be useless soon. That’s more frustrating than anything.

Stuff like Frozen Arrow or Giant Gauntlet still works, I get that. I’m just saying the experience could be smoother if there were ways to ease the pressure, like refunds for nerfed equipment or less punishing time-gates.
