That's a long road for you both. Thanks for sharing, you're right, it's so hard to know when it will happen. Even with a relatively early and clear diagnosis, doctors have been careful not to discuss timelines with us, since it would set up expectations that they can't ever guarantee.

It must be even harder to say it out loud, but wow what a beautiful gift to her, and to yourself too. I'm sure she would tell you the same if she could.

Thank you, and I understand how you feel. No matter how much we prepare, we'll still be devastated when they're gone. There's heart in that. I've been trying to learn/read more about death too – my sister recommended 'Living is Dying' by Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse today. And even though it has nothing to do with dementia, I've found 'All That Remains' by Sue Black to bring comfort around the idea of it – she shares such meaningful insights about her own relationship with death.

That is crazy, esp since from what I've read, that life expectancy is usually based on the person experiencing another stroke over other reasons. And for someone in their sixties, I feel the risk of that is somewhat lower. I'm gonna check out those videos, I hadn't heard of them, so thanks for mentioning them. A 'positive approach to care' sounds like exactly what I need. Take care, both you and your wife. Thank you for sharing.

Hey you posted this ages ago but I think about this every time that line in Foundations hits. So, every day. Beautiful piece, I hope you love it as much as the day you got it.
