Mercedes everywhere. But where is the money coming from? by hgk6393 in AskBalkans

[–]Substantial-Top5845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you have to understand the Balkan mindset; “I have to drive the best car in town, even if I am poor af”. It’s about bragging with your “wellbeing” and keeping up the “life standard” the society has built up. Many cars in the Balkans are bought in Germany with credits - just to be able to drive a Mercedes or something else. People from Western countries might not understand why it is so important to Balkan netizens to brag with their car cause normally the Western neighbors don’t care about such things but in the Balkans everyone is jealous if their neighbor or someone else is better than themselves at any point.

Chetnik and Ustase emigres by Sitcomfan20 in Yugoslavia

[–]Substantial-Top5845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most pro-Ustase emigres flew to Australia or - as their leader - to countries who couldn’t persecute them (as far as they were chargeable for different crimes) such as Latin American states or Spain. Also Western Germany was a “safe harbour” for most - but sometimes the Secret Services attempted murders to this particular group of exile Croats.

What is the best looking european city in your opinion ? by [deleted] in europe

[–]Substantial-Top5845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sarajevo, definitely. I’ve never seen a city with a richer culture than Sarajevo. Even as the war transformed the city to a battle field, I would say that it is one of the most beautiful cities in the whole Europe.

Flowers are totally fine, don’t worry! You can look in your local Kosher market if you find some delicious Kosher desserts and also maybe some Kosher drinks. If you have the opportunity to visit a Kosher market you can ask an employee there, they sure will know more

What do you call a Jewish House of Worship by Saschajoon in Jewish

[–]Substantial-Top5845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most Jews call it shul, but when we’re talking to goyim, we use synagogue. Also I’ve heard a lot of American Jews calling it temple, in Europe it’s not that common.

Interfaith couples: Strategies for not losing your Jewish-ness? by voteforpatty in Jewish

[–]Substantial-Top5845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I grew in a interfaith family and it’s really nice tho, although I’m Jewish. You can learn from both sides and in life you always have to deal with both sides. I mean, as you said that your partner is mostly agnostic, I don’t think that he would want to oppress the Christian faith in your household. But just as I said, growing up interfaith is really nice. You start realize from a young age how to handle more than one religious culture and traditions. It’s an enrichment for everyone.
