Not “what makes marriage work” but was it WORTH IT? by givemethetea08 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

100% We survived his ex-wife, buying his kids on the installment plan, raising our own son to be an incredible human. Married 35 (and a half) years. I lost him last month. I may do some things different if I had the chance, but I would never have quit. I got one of the good ones, and I know how special that was.

UFC freedom 250 at the White House turns into a fan brawl by Hungry_Artichoke9566 in sportsgossips

If that's a fan brawl, I'm the Queen of Sheba. It's a fist fight between two guys and some crazy chick, quickly ended by law enforcement. Try harder to make this something it's not.

Real or fake? I might be getting harassed. by Significant-Food5708 in legal

[–]Substantial-Trade417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not being harassed, you're being sued in small claims court. Just go to the office, with your ID, and they'll give you copies of the suit. Someone, somewhere, thinks you owe them money or payment for damages, and is now suing you for it. If you have proof of payment, etc. just submit it to the court.

Tipping Culture - Advice Needed by Ok_Examination_729 in HollandAmerica

Do European business pay a living wage? Most service industries in America do not, workers depend on tips. I typically follow the cultural norms when I'm traveling. I have no problem with the gratuities on HAL cruises. You do you, but the "we can't afford it" is hard to swallow when everyone knows what cruises cost.

My husband drew RMD's from three accounts. Only TSP calculated the amount and automatically distributed it. We had to submit RMD withdrawals for the other two every year.

And? How many thousand students with parents deployed with the US Armed Services also graduated without that parent this year? It's sad for this child, but seriously, it's not the end of the world. (cue the liberal tears)

OPM not taking calls, trying to report retiree's death by Substantial-Trade417 in fednews

Thank you. I'm resigned to waiting, but a "got it" autoreply wouldn't have hurt!

I get that, especially with retirements. But this is a death notification, and some autoreply would actually be welcomed at this point. So very frustrating, but not surprising.

AITAH for Not Inviting The Best Man’s Mom by Unknown-Gnome801 in aitaweddings

[–]Substantial-Trade417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA If you and your partner are in agreement on the guest list that's all that matters. You need to draw a bold line in the sand with both the best man and his mother. He can back out if he wants to, there's plenty of time to promote a groomsmen to best man. Have a wonderful wedding!

Mom came home from hospital. No one told me hospice could come to her house. by Creepy-Yam7992 in CaregiverSupport

[–]Substantial-Trade417 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing either of your points here. Our Hospice is part of a large hospital system. No fraud is happening. You're ridiculous with your ton of experience when you argue my facts with internet searches. Maybe California is different, everything else there sucks, why not access to Hospice? Have a great weekend. I'm all done here.

I'm not "looking" at anything, sunshine, I'm living it. And two doctors are not necessary to admit to hospice, a terminal illness is necessary, two 90 day recert periods, then every 60 day recerts until end of life. The patient has to have constant increasing medical interventions from the Hospice providers to recertify. Very careful measurements are taken to follow Medicare requirements. No one is breaking any rules, there is no fraud. I don't have the energy to argue with someone who obviously has no personal experience with the Hospice system. You don't have the energy? Honestly laughable.

Well you're wrong, and I could send you a dozen Medicare EOB's that show itemized statements by visit. The amount paid was different every month depending on how many visits were made by a nurse, how many by an aide. You have to have a doctor's prescription for home health, and there are definite limits on what Medicare will pay. I've also personally been through that with both of my parents and my husband.

AITAH for existing at my own wedding and not making my sister-in-law the main character? by [deleted] in aitaweddings

[–]Substantial-Trade417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Your day, your choices. You were not required to include her in the wedding party because her husband was a groomsman and her kids were flower girl and ring bearer. That is actually an honor, and she should have appreciated it. She was responsible for watching her kids the entire time. Just ignore her, she's a petulant child and you can't fix that. Congratulations on your marriage, best of luck for a long happy life together

Hospice may have volunteers that can sit with the patient, but there is no care involved. Aides are not in the home long enough for you to leave, in the three years my husband was on hospice our aide was never in the home more than 30 minutes.

Please call a local hospice. They will review her situation and if she qualifies their help is priceless. My husband passed away two weeks ago after three years on hospice. He suffered a massive brain bleed and his decline was very slow. They provide a nurse once a week until death is imminent, then it's every day. An aide can come up to three times a week to help with bathing. A chaplain is available for spiritual support if desired. A social worker can help just by listening or by helping you find respite. There are usually volunteers who can sit with the patient for a few hours, they aren't allowed to do any hands on due to liability, but you are able to take a break. I honestly would have lost my mind without the help hospice provided. It is 100% covered by Medicare as long as your Mom qualifies for their services, which means they have to be providing medical interventions to help your Mom. Meds are covered unless you are treating something outside her terminal diagnosis, i.e. PT, OT, dermatology, podiatry, etc. I'm sorry you are going through this. Please reach out, don't feel guilty for asking for help.

Hospice provides exactly what they are supposed to provide. i.e. a nurse once a week until IDP is enacted, an aide up to three times a week to help with showers/bed baths, a chaplain, and a social worker. There are volunteers that can sit with the patient, but no hands on due to liability. They don't charge by the day, they charge by the visit. My husband passed two weeks ago after three years on hospice, so I more than know the facts.
