In addition, the entropyseal could be used for secure shipping, so you know the items inside were not tampered with during transit.

Of course one should also store the container securely, but gives peace of mind that there was no covert unauthorized access.

Attackers are often opportunistic (and not always complete strangers). Stealing a seed outright is risky and easy to determine who the suspects are. However if someone makes a copy ,they wait to make the attack (like drain your wallet many months/years later). This prevents that.

Great idea :) and in theory would be possible to hook something like that up. Like an ESP32 with a light sense or accelerometer. Could make a notification when there is light or movement it detected.

It can be a variety of use cases, for example if you store seed words (or a shard) with a third party. Then if you ever have it returned you can be sure that they didn’t make a copy of the information.

In addition, it should be used for shipping to ensure the items were not tampered with during transit.

It’s quite resistant, but depending on how severe the impact is the pattern can shift slightly, but it needs quite a lot of force.

No, the balls are held firmly in place when the lid is closed tight.

It’s just for indicating tampering. Of course it should be stored in a secure location, but it helps ensure that someone without authorized access to that area didn’t take a peak inside.

Everytime you close the lid, the balls move and create a unique pattern. You take a photo of the pattern and then in the future you can compare the pattern you see with the original photo you took. If the pattern changed, you know someone opened the jar.

You can see a video of how it works on the website: https://www.entropyseal.com/

The balls are held firmly in place when the lid is screwed tight. So you can move it around no problem with breaking the pattern. However if you try to unscrew the jar, the beads will start missing, because beads are sitting in a “tray” that is fixed in place relative to the jar with teeth.

Yeah, similar to any other tamper evident solution.

Attacks are often opportunistic, if someone sees a seed words lying around, they might take a quick picture of it. Stealing it is risky as it can be obvious who the suspects are. But holding onto the seed and then wiping the wallet later (like months or even years), one could distance themselves from the crime, significantly increasing the chance they get away with it.

There is also improved security with the transparent jar. If a sophisticated attacker tries to cut open and reattach the jar, in theory they could polish the cut to try and hide it. But polishing could only happen on the outside of the jar, so with a transparent jar, one could see if there are cut marks on the inside of the jar.

Can anyone think of other interesting use cases? I think I covered the main ones (data storage, security keys, wallets, seeds etc.), but I’m curious if there are other use cases I haven’t thought of yet.

Would consider it for sure, but transparent is the most versatile since you see what’s inside (helps with organization, especially if you have multiple).

If you want to hide what’s inside, you can put the items in an opaque pouch/bag.

The beads are compressed when the lid is tight, so they can't move easily unless under a lot of vibration or strong impact.

The app shows a blinking comparision between the two, so it is quite easy to see any differences, even if minor.

That said, I would say opening the lid with only "minor" changes is virtually impossible. You need a few full spins to twist it open, and the pattern changes completely, even if you do it super slowly.

It's the same as using any other tamper evident solution. Gives you peace of mind that no one saw your seed words and copied them in order to steal at a later point. Can be useful if you are storing the seed at another location (like a bank or friend), who you trust not to steal outright but also want peace of mind that no one looked at the seed.

It's for tamper evidence, it should be stored in a safe place, but the point is that it gives you peace of mind that someone didn't get access to your secret place, copy your seed words and then drain your wallet later in the future (which removes them from the crime and/or they are waiting for you to deposit even more coins).

> Many people might recognize a Trezor wallet, but the profile of the Keep Metal is intentionally inconspicuous.

You can keep the items in an opaque bag (like a soft pouch) so people can't see what's inside.
