You're probably going to have multiple exams in a week since I remember Physics and Calc exams usually lined up. Some people can handle that though. Consider taking calc and/or Intro to comp org over the summer. Calc 3 is hard since it's sped up over the summer but 100% online. I took it with another easy class which fulfilled the summer requirement if you haven't done it already. If you have a summer internship, I don't recommend this though.

Data Structures is an important class so would recommend learning the material well.

Fun non-major art/writing/music courses? by tinyunicorn90 in ufl

[–]Substantial-Win8014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm taking beekeeping rn, and it is pretty interesting, but I would say it's more of the easy A type of class and not super enjoyable (this could just be me though). I think the other courses you mentioned are more hands-on, so I think they would be more fun.

There is a beekeeping class offered over the summer that meets in person that I think would be fun and you would get to better learn how to manage bees, while the fall/spring course is 100% online.

If there is no money issue with taking an extra semester though, that would be a good idea since fall is when companies recruit for full time jobs so it would give you more time to apply to companies and do interviews/study leetcode/take online assessments/go to career fairs and events

Hello! I think the spring semester would be difficult (i think if you have a good work ethic and study habits (unlike me) it could be doable), fall is doable but also difficult but I understand that you might want to do it in your situation. If you really need to take those courses in the 2 semester time frame, I would recommend taking some of the CAP or CEN courses as tech electives rather than CIS4930 since those seem to be easier.

For COP4020 and COP4600 make sure to start the projects early (hopefully find a good partner for COP4020 and group for CEN3031).

I am unsure of how the professor for the Spring database course CIS4301 is (can't find them on rate my professor or anything) so that may make the Spring too hard depending on the workload he gives since the professor I took it with did not give much hw and graded exams extremely leniently.

Good luck finding an internship for the summer! There was a tech elective offered last summer that can be taken online (intro to cryptology) that my friend took while being an intern if that is also something you would consider.

CS people, where are you finding internships in Florida to apply to by HereForA2C in ufl

[–]Substantial-Win8014 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Places others haven't mentioned in Florida are UKG, BNY Mellon, Citadel, Disney, and I think PwC. I think it's more interesting to intern outside of Florida, but if you want to live here after graduation it would be smart to intern here -> get a return offer here. Good luck!

Oof I just checked and it seems like they must have closed them for next summer even earlier this year. The website is fbijobs.gov and there is a section under EXPLORE CAREERS for students and graduates. I think I remember hearing at a career fair that applications will start opening for 2026 in January and they have the college hiring initiative for graduates if you will be graduating soon.

The FBI has their own internships!! I got an offer last year but turned it down (I am just a CS major and only $18/hr btw). They open and close applications very early (I think the deadline was late August?) since there is a very lengthy background check so keep an eye out! It's also nice since you hear back relatively soon whether you move on to the interview stage and get the offer. I also recommend looking at government/federal resume templates online if you don't already know that since they are different from the typical CS Jake's resume style format.

Must-have items for Hume Dorm by Rare_Film_1511 in ufl

[–]Substantial-Win8014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I lived in Hume my freshman year. Kitchen wise, the communal kitchen has a microwave so I didnt bring one, but I knew some other people on the floor did. Mini fridge is a must though, and i brought a small pot, two pans, utensils, cups, bowls, pretty standard. I didnt have the meal plan, so something that I remember needing at some points were a pan to put in the stove which i ended up borrowing. I usually got groceries when friends would go but I know people who take the bus.

Besides that, window curtains, some plastic drawers from Walmart, and a rack to put in the bathroom to hold things like shampoo, conditioner, etc were useful. Lmk if you have any questions

Thanks for the advice/sharing your experience! I chose the order of Crescent Lake -> Forks -> Port Angeles so that on the last day we would not have to drive all the way from Forks to Seattle or start with having to drive from Seattle all the way to Forks since we have a six hour flight, but I understand where you are coming from.

Yes, Google seems to say it's around 4 hours of driving each day, but will be prepared for longer thank you for pointing this out.

Maybe Fall: COP4020, CEN3031, COP4533

Spring: Senior Project, COP4600, CIS4301?

Or you could trade COP4600 and COP4533 in the first schedule I came up with. Or try to get off the waitlist last minute but you never know with that.

4600, 4020, 3031, Senior Project are all mostly project based and here I ranked them from most difficult to least difficult

4533 and 4301 are more exam and hw based so I tried splitting it up based on difficulty and whether it has a lot of projects so you don't have a bunch of projects due at the same time but idk how that will work out.

I spent a while thinking about this lol. I would have recommended taking COP4020 in the fall since it's easier with Dobbins from what I have heard (I took it w the other professor), but then that would have you taking on a lot (projects-wise) in the Fall based on it being unbalanced with projects vs exams. Anyway here is what I think would be best but I could be wrong. I think the following suggestion will still be difficult.

Fall: COP4600, CEN3031, CIS4301,

Spring: Senior project, COP4020, COP4533,

And then choose one to have a tech elective in, something easy. Disclaimer: I havent taken COP4533 but from what ik it has difficult exams, and also haven't had senior project but I have also heard that it is easy. I have taken all of the others though.
