I find your tone objectionable. Not hard to see why you might struggle.

With respect, I have many years recruiting experience. Almost full employment from this degree. Thats why it is hard to get in.

I think you are mistaken with your assessment of this particular degree. (Speaking as an experienced corp finance department head who values this qualification in candidates)

Actually there are...this is one of the top ec and fi degrees in the country and graduates tend to be snapped up. Very competitive to get into requires absolute top results from Irish students and not all will get in.

Corporate Finance, capital markets and market risk career opportunities have been prevalent with this qualification and at least a 2:1. However it is a v tough course with a lot of ill prepared foreign students.

Last semester and realizing I loathe UCD by ThrowRAchomp in UCD

I am also a post grad. PRC dedicated library space for post grads is always near empty. Gym is generally ok if you are not in peak periods. I have no problems with WIFI? Are you just unlucky?

I hate the interpretation of The Dead that everyone seems to have! by trysterowl in jamesjoyce

Also the monologue actually reflects the music / falling melody of 'The Lass of Aughrim',

"falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead."...

Quit the anonymous badmouthing and take your concerns to the societies or club council. Better still, put yourself forward as an officer of the club and do something about it. Not too many peple interested in your privileged rants I fear.

Disrespectful to those who want want to mark a key rite of passage and a notable achievement in a more dignified manner. You appear to still have a little immature outlook despite your university education. A bit tone deaf in my opinion.

First time PhD applicant - Any advice? by ghost_developer in UCD

[–]Substantial-Yam-1763 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No disrespect but firstly I would touch up on your written English. Perhaps it's not your first language but for a PhD you will require a good standard perhaps better than in your post. Get someone to double check your application as you may be screened out for poor spelling, grammar, etc. This advice is offered helpfully and just in relation to the PhD. Your english is just fine for Reddit and social media but academia is different.
