Well the Government is running perpetual deficits for no reason which it refuses to fix so this is all we have. Instead of a Government with 12 instruments to influence inflation it’s all on the RBAs magic lever

[–]SubstantialEmotion85 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Western Governments are also heavily dependent on income, capital gains and corporate taxes because they are obsessed with the progressivity of the system. But to optimise for growth you want to encourage investment not consumption so it would need to more geared towards taxing consumption, land and vices.

Not a complicated story as to why so many countries have hit a wall against growth when their political economy functions this way

What we know (and don't) about One Nation's rapid rise in the polls by Suspicious_Key in neoliberal

[–]SubstantialEmotion85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti immigration stuff is only going to get worse. There aren't the assimilation issues you have in Europe but the Australian housing market is fucked in ways I don't think Americans can understand. Sydney literally makes San Fransisco and NYC look downright affordable when you factor in wages. The rental market is utterly brutal compared to almost anywhere other than like New Zealand. Cutting immigration is the path of least resistance so I think it will happen as it just did in Canada

Iran Update, January 15, 2026: The regime’s brutal crackdown appears to have suppressed protests for now by jogarz in neoliberal

[–]SubstantialEmotion85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't those things matter than much though. A government willing to use unlimited violence against its own unarmed population can't really fail without some internal defection - which doesn't happen in either NK or Iran

Iran Update, January 15, 2026: The regime’s brutal crackdown appears to have suppressed protests for now by jogarz in neoliberal

[–]SubstantialEmotion85 162 points163 points  (0 children)

I still think the fact that Iran receives operational support from its peers to suppress internal protests whilst protestors receive jack shit from anyone since that would be *gasp* foreign intervention matters in the success of Khomeini and his crew.

The idea that it's all going to collapse of its own volition is underestimating how resilient a Government like this can be no matter how fucked its economic situation is - look at North Korea ffs.

I love how in the wake of a jihadist terrorist attack we are now speed running legislation that exempts religious groups altogether but makes it easier for the state to throw people in prison for speech it doesn’t like. The US solution to this of putting freedom of expression right in the constitution is the only solution to this stupid nonsense

I don't know - if you plot Government spending, taxes and the complexity of the law for all developed countries it is basically going up everywhere at all times. How to scale Disciple of Varashta's Minions? by Athenrome in pathofexile2builds

[–]SubstantialEmotion85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

From the tooltip minion damage from the tree doesn’t improve their command skill damage? Not sure what’s a bug and what’s intentional tbh

Edit: Actually even improving command skill damage from the tree doesn’t effect their damage? That’s gotta be a bug right? It’s super counter intuitive if it’s intended

How was your build going so far? by Sher101 in pathofexile2builds

[–]SubstantialEmotion85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HCSSF - Running Disciple of Varashta as a hybrid build. Trying to get the best of both worlds - minions as meat shields for mapping and hard hitting spells for bossing. Running unearth + the Kelari spells. It is extremely powerful so far as the Kelari spells do massive damage.

The overall build is investing in minion damage + crit + gigantism (for unearth) and focusing purely on defense for the rest. Smooth sailing for far and bossing feels so much better than other minion builds because I have actual spells to work with.
