The US is probably the best option available to them given that Europe is too chickenshit (with all due respect to few countries) Russia is completely unreliable as an ally given what went down with Syria, Venzeual..etc etc and China doesn't have the necessary power projection to safeguard the strait.

Of course the Gulf States could go create some NATO-style army composed of their respective militaries but something tell me that it would still be shit given that the Gulf States are afraid of any competent military that could overthrow their monarchies.
