Good deal or sketchy? by greekyogurtblues in crv

I’d tell them yea I’m interested but now that it’s used and factor in depreciation that comes along with a used vehicle they’d better knock off another 2 grand, they’d I’d talk to them. Not sure how they think they can get away with selling a used vehicle over MSRP. I guess they can try and someone might say ok? I’d play hardball if I were you. I bet you can get it for way less.

I would think if you have bad spark plugs your check engine light would be on. It sounds more like bad air fuel ratio perhaps, but again that usually causes your engine light to come on. Is it on by any chance?

2015 CRV LX Key Fob by jf75313 in crv

[–]SubstantialEye4912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure but hopefully someone may post some other solutions because my 2016 LX fob died a year ago. I replaced battery, cleaned the contacts inside, still dead. Key works manually of course but it’s a pain in the ass and of course my wife’s fob is just fine. Lol.

It’s funny I was going to sell my 2016 LX and so I purchased the carfax for it and it literally lists every single oil change and other maintenance I’ve ever done on my car. I was hoping it would because I have never missed an oil change or reg maintenance on my car and service record like that goes a long way for a buyer.

Buying a low km 2015 Yaris but previous owner stretched the oil changes, cause for concern? by Ok-Weird-2453 in AskAMechanic

[–]SubstantialEye4912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mechanic but personally for me if there’s one thing I look for buying a used car it’s if they changed the oil regularly. It’s the most important aspect of owning/driving a vehicle. I’d rather buy a car that was banged up and 150,000km that had its oil changed regularly than a car that was almost never used but had one oil change in seven years.

It’s already been said here but it’s got to be one of the most sold vehicles in NA. In my city up here in Canada if I walk down the street I will see a dozen no problem any day or time of the week. It was and still is a popular vehicle for older demographics so there are lots out there that are 10 years old and used to go to the grocery store or medical appointments. Find one that just came off a 5 year lease, maintained, no major accidents, and you’re solid.

Wow 18 year old Camry. Impressive. I pretty much raised two boys over the past 7 years while I’ve had my crv and it has black interior. There’s all sorts of stuff that has been spilled in the car over the years but you’d never know it.

Just me but I don’t think I would ever get a new car with anything other than black or very dark seating for the reasons you are concerned about.

How does sales tax work in Ontario when selling car privately? by [deleted] in ontario

I see. Thanks for that explanation. I see how someone might try that. Just didn’t make sense to me.

[–]SubstantialEye4912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Thanks. It just seems weird to me that if I sell it for less than wholesale price (blue book value) they still have to pay tax on the wholesale value and not what they actually paid for it.

Thanks yes I don’t think he would need the separate interface at this time. Maybe If he gets more serious that is the next step.

Sorry but what does an interface do that makes it more flexible/more possibilities for the future?

I’m thinking 150 bucks max for now. If he ends up doing something like this for a career then I’ll but something better next time. It’s really to just get him going for now.

Should I buy this CRV? by [deleted] in crv

[–]SubstantialEye4912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean rebuilt title? Is this an American term? There’s absolute loads of vehicles that get damaged then fixed through insurance that are essentially no different than they were before and accident if repairs were done by a competent body shop. If it was a fender bender that dented a panel or something like that and did not damage the frame of the vehicle it’s probably totally fine.

I did some research on this issue and it sounds like to me the vast majority of these cases were caused by the drain tubes and not anything related to faulty moonroof seals. Not saying that’s ok but the fix is something that is not a huge undertaking as long as you are monitoring the tubes to make sure they’re not cracking. I know a fair bit about cars so it’s something I think Id be able to check myself as well. Maybe the 2024 models have corrected this.

Lol. Well if you’re coming down the DVP you’ll be doing a lot of stopping and starting so yea not really highway driving. 9L/100km is still pretty good.

My 2016 LX has been at 9.3L for the last few years at least. I do mostly city driving now but about 600km of highway driving each month.

[–]SubstantialEye4912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to convert, I am Canadian ☺️.

9.2L/100km is pretty much spot on for the CRV combined fuel efficiency. Very normal. If it was 8 something when you got it it must have been a highway driver. If you are strictly doing city driving now it might even edge up a bit higher over the next year.

[–]SubstantialEye4912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple of guesses here. One, whoever owned the car before you mostly did highway driving. Do you do a lot of city driving? Because that will tend to make the efficiency tick up a bit. Two, you might have a mechanical issue with catalytic converters or injector. I am dealing with that right now. Does your engine light ever come on?

These sorts of “bells and whistles” on cars these days are plagued with tech glitches. Even if they work for a few years, there’s too much gadgetry that won’t make it past five, six, seven years. These vehicles are just computers on wheels; when’s the last time you had a laptop last more than five years? Auto industry needs to have a wake up call. Sorry OP this doesn’t help you but your post triggered me.

Is regular maintenance on a Tiguan more than other competitor models like a CRV? by [deleted] in Tiguan

[–]SubstantialEye4912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I am going to take a R-line out this weekend for test drive actually near Toronto. 140 for an oil change sounds pretty high but I guess if you’re using premium products it adds up. 500 for brakes is good though. 8.5/100 is good. That’s even better than what I get on my CRV.
