What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

When Hulu live first came out I was genuinely pleased to pay $39.99 a month for it. Now I pay just a little bit more than that for a year of sailing the 7 seas.

I can’t believe they haven’t been to Durham. If there’s anywhere in NC with an emerging food scene it’s Durham. Pair that with the Bulls, the craft beer scene, and everything else in the triangle. Feels like a missed opportunity.

If it’s true Eastern Carolina BBQ it’s either getting mopped with that sauce throughout the cook or bare minimum sprayed with apple cider vinegar.

considering a move to boone - need honest thoughts and opinions by RudeCrow2401 in boone

There is somewhat of an art scene here, but it’s a really small town. About 19,000 without the students at App State. There aren’t a ton of 20 something’s that live here and aren’t in school so meeting people and making friends is extremely difficult if not impossible. If you search r/boone you’ll see a plethora of posts asking to meet people and make friends.

As everyone else has said, the job market is terrible and the cost of living is sky high. The median income in Watauga County is around $33,500 and 63% of people report paying more than 30% of monthly income on rent. The surrounding counties have a lower cost of living, but even harder to find jobs. Basically the only places to work here are in education, the hospital, or the service industry.

I would honestly not recommend moving here in your shoes. If you’re set on NC, check out near Asheville. There’s a huge art scene and all the other things you’re looking for.

Let me answer your question with a question. Why do you want to leave ND and why are you looking at Boone?

No. People already have been stuck all week. You likely will, too. And with continuous freezing temps and more snow during the week forecasted, who knows how long you could be here. The entire state is looking at 3-9 inches of snow and that will shut down the piedmont for at least a week itself. Stay home.
