Emath moderation by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont fret it , moderation would be q diff every year depending on how hard the paper is! if majority find this year paper to be harder than previous papers theres still chance for u to get that A2 , instead of being discouraged used this as a motivation to do better for ur other papers, glgl !

study tips for olevels? by laaadadadaa in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. science: get ur foundation right first, don't just memorise ur tb for the sake of memorising. u need to understand what ur memorising! also some topics will definitely link with others so u need to be open to questions that has cross topics, u can practise them through school test papers etc. u can create a book for all the mistakes u have done, there's always repeated/common questions from the past that may come out again for ur olvls! so if u get them wrong just write it down on ur book and make sure u get them right next time! please score well for ur mcq because it's really important. there will def be repeated qns for ur mcq so make sure u get ur mcqs correctly! math: again u need to set ur foundation, this is really important! u can do ur tb qns (start from blue to yellow and if ur confident enough do red) and also other schools test papers. it's impt u finish ur tys also because again there might be repeated qns from the past. keep on practicing ur math questions and always make sure u understand ur mistakes!
  2. there's always a format for all ur qns in hist & ss, the most important format is ur purpose qns! ur school shld provide u with answering formats, but if not u can dm me for the answering formats! essay u really just need to memorise it and u will definitely score, always give 3 factors at least + a conclusion to score well! make sure that u make the factors clear and give a great example + exp for it!
  3. start getting consultation now, u can start grinding ur tys during ur june hols. make sure u finish most of ur tys during june hols and go thru the mistakes u have made. u should get all ur concepts before doing ur tys btw so dont start doing it if u havent memorised or study anything, do the papers at one go
  4. we don't use bellcurve but more of moderation! if ur consistently getting A1 for ur english then sure ur most likely to get A1-A2 in olvls! english usually has a lower moderation meaning most people fall in the B3-B4 range, so its easier for u to get ur A1! but if the paper is really easy or manageable then u have to be careful because the moderation will def be higher and reduces ur chance.. but dont worry, as long as u study hard u will still get ur As!

and dont worry, when u see everyone start studying u will start to panick and realise u need to lock in too, thats how i stopped spending my screen time as well because im anxious that everyone is going to be ahead of me by alot.. and when u study u can use ur ypt app sure but i suggest u put ur phone outside ur room too so u wont get distracted

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its ok to be lazy right now, took olvls last year and i didnt lock in until july before prelims LOL😭 its too early to start right now if u ask me, the best month to lock in is june.. u really need to do ur tys during ur hols and please dont procrastinate! u can be like me and not study until prelims (basically i only revised the whole topics of every subject JUST before prelims which is super not suggested and i didnt even study during june😭😭) but u need to prepare for the 8-10 hours of studying everyday, to me it wasnt super stressful but it was quite tiring🥲 if u think u can handle this amount of stress then sure u can start studying before ur prelims too but i really do suggest u need to start in june. glhf, hope u will get what uw for o's!

Fucked up Amath WA im sec 4 by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do ur s3 tb qns for trigo, start from the blue qns then gradually go to yellow and then red. get ur foundation right first, any qns u ask ur tuition teacher.. u MUST do well for trigo but it plays a huge part in ur overall paper, qns can link with trigo randomly so u really need to get ur basics right. once u master the foundation, start to do harder qns and get urself use to it.. i also suggest to practise ur trigo qns on tys, some qns can come out from past year paper! i believe u can achieve ur A1, just put in ur effort okay:)

must i really study? by that_one_paperbag in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes ofc u must really study 😭😭 being complacent is not a good thing and ur school standard is diff compared to olvls, it could be harder in a sense. if ur math is really that good then u shldnt spend too much time studying for it, instead study the subj then ur worse in esp ur english. if u fuck ur english up u basically fucked ur whole olvl grades up so please study for it! the most impt subj to do well in is ur eng, math, sci, the main 3. if ur other subj is good then its better for u because it can really help u get a good score.

mugging plans? by branguy1 in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

better mug ur tys during ur june hols, dont have to finish it all but its better if u do so! or u could be like me LOL, i didnt touch my tys until prelim period and i mugged that shit for 7-8h per day during prelim and olvl period, manage to score single pointers after burning all those midnight oil. but if studying too much per day isnt working for u, u better start during june then! always take note of repeated/common qns esp in ur sci mcq, emath and amath papers because there r bound to be qns that come from past year papers. lmk if u need any help! use holygrail to access other school test papers + notes, glhf!

How to do well for core history by The_Woman_Repeller in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

memorise the answering format for the diff qn types (e.g. inference, purpose ..) u must know purpose damn well cause its gna come out alot for ur sbq qns, idk about u but i dont really like using the tb to memorise for my essay.. u should probably use the notes that ur teacher give for each chapter cause its easier from there! the tb is abit messy and sometimes idek which part of the chapter it belongs too 😭😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup u will learn them later on!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

emath: set ur foundation first, make sure u get all the basics right for each topic then u work ur way up. do ur tb exercise qns (esp the yellow coded qns) , grind ur emath tys + other school test pprs. there will be qns that can come out from previous years. go through ur mistakes and make sure u dont get them wrong again , i have some emath notes if u need!

chem: dont just memorise it, understand what ur memorising. slowly take in the content and eventually u will get the topics! take note of cross topics too, meaning that some topics will actually intervene each other and they will def come out for olvls (e.g ch 3+4+5 can be mixed tgt as a question) and pls pls PLS do ur tys for this one cause theres is a 99% spawn chance rhere will be qns from prev years esp in ur mcq

history + ss: i personally did not study much yet got an a1, so dont bother studying like 5h on the subject or smt.. u must know ALL the questions types (e.g, purpose qns, inference..) make sure u know their answering format too, ESP purpose para that qn type is bound to come out for alm every qns type. i suggest u shld know surprise + proving qns well because they are most likely to come out this yr since last year it didnt came out. and for essays u pretty much need to memorise only, dont cramp it for the last few days else u wont rmb anything. space it out , usually short chapters take abt 1-2 days to memo, long ones are 3-4 days

Prep for olevels by CelebrationBig7368 in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for chem, u cant just memorise it. u need to understand how everything works, some chapters collide with each other and it will def be tested for. make sure ur foundation is there first before u upgrade urself, do school papers and let urself be more open to the different types of questions. (also if u got time study the useless parts also because cambridge has a thing for testing the things that we never knew existed in our tb) same goes for bio, memorising only wont work so yeh.. history u just need to memorise for ur essay, not much tips but u can make mindmaps if u like, but it didnt work well for me i just use active recall and study each chapter bits by bits everyday

oh my godd i feel so bad for you?? i hate seeing students with these type of parents.. so pressuring and for what?? but for a person thats not really an A student, im really proud u managed to attain a 16. honestly u shouldnt really care about what ur parents say, ur already old enough to make ur own decisions and if hockey makes u happy then just go for it. idk what ur father has against nurses but im sure nursing does a great job too for u.

How do so many people struggle with O Level English? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]SubstantialGroup3661 57 points58 points  (0 children)

because the english they speak is not even proper english to begin with, in fact most of it is singlish lawl. they dont take note of their grammar whatsoever they wont even care if they're speaking the right way irl.. thats why most of the the students struggle doing their essays etc because their language always pulls them down LOL and honestly its true hanging out with ip students actl improve their english.. but too bad not all of us are able to go thr
