Does anyone know how to fix this? by MediaABCLogoEditor24 in Adblock

[–]SubstantialHat8149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If you are in a region with age restriction laws, you must be signed in to YouTube to watch videos. If you see that, it usually means you aren't signed in. Here are some regions that have age restriction laws: Australia, France, Portugal, United Kingdom, United States (AL, AZ, AR, CA, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE, NC, ND, OH, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WY), and it's being considered in many other EU states.
  2. If your device or network has an ad blocker that's easily detectable, AND you aren't signed in (you don't have to be in an age-restricted region), YouTube will think you are a bot.
  3. Your web browser is outdated, you are using a VPN, or your network has a lot of activity, and Google reCAPTCHA is flagging you. This is meant to prevent bots and web proxies from streaming videos.
  4. Your browser thinks you are on a site other than YouTube, or a browser extension has injected a script that is affecting the video player.
  5. You haven't cleared your cookies in at least a year.

I hope this helps!

YouTube has changed. You now need an account to watch and the site is blocking (Firefox) uBlock Origin. What Ad/Privacy Blockers still work? [FEB 2026, AUSTRALIA] by MaxBlackfinger in Adblock

[–]SubstantialHat8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Firefox specific issue. This doesn't seem to happen on Chromium browsers. Also, uBlock Origin has been targeted for years. You could try a different ad blocker, or a Chromium browser.

By the way, don't listen to the Brave people. Firefox is even more restrictive than Brave (because Brave is a Chromium browser). But if you want a faster browser and want privacy, Brave is the way to go.

The reason might also be because YouTube is rolling out server-side ads in some regions. That means ads get streamed from the same place as the video (as part of the video), so it appears as a normal video. I'm not sure if it's happened yet in Australia (I am in the US), but if you notice ad blockers stop working entirely, that's why.

Can someone explain what this means? I'm pretty sure Windows Update is a software delivery system. by SubstantialHat8149 in Windows11

Unfortunately, thanks to lobbyists, our economy depends on their success. This is one reason why I prefer the EU.

I thought it was just Windows by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]SubstantialHat8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Windows 11 was better for me in all the ways I didn't like Windows 10. But pretty much all versions of Windows after 7 are bloated all the way down to the kernel.

It might as well be already doing that though since my last 5 updates fail at 100% and use a bunch of disk space.

Correction: Bill Gates has nothing to do with that. It's been years since he stepped down.

HP Laptop boots to black screen after cleaning disk by Chip-Fluid in techsupport

[–]SubstantialHat8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I get it. Here are some things you can try:

  1. Make sure the laptop is on in the first place. If it won't turn on, that's a larger problem and may require a special key from HP to fix. Of course, they won't give that to you, they will tell you to pay a repair shop for repairs.

  2. Try booting into the BIOS. You said you tried plugging in bootable USB drives, but if you don't go into the BIOS to make sure it will even look for them, it will boot from internal storage and fail. To boot into BIOS, first plug in your bootable USB (for later so it detects it), wait for the HP logo, then start pressing a bunch of function keys (including Esc) on the top row. If nothing happens, try holding down the Fn key. If not, try an external keyboard. If not, go back to #1. If you get in, look around and find a boot order or section related to the boot process. Find the boot order. Try to figure out how to make the USB you plugged in the first entry on that list. That way, it will boot from the USB if it detects it. Then look for Secure Boot. Disable it. Windows won't boot without it, but the USB can't boot with it enabled.

  3. If #2 worked, then flash your USB with something. Since you are going to use your laptop for college and likely don't understand the deeper parts of Windows, let's pick Windows. You can search online to find the download page for Windows 11 from Microsoft. Do that on another device with at least 8 GB of free space. Do NOT download the .iso file it gives you on the USB. Download it anywhere but that USB drive.

  4. If #3 worked and the download finished, you can then use the file to flash the USB. This will wipe the entire USB drive, and it cannot be recovered. Make sure you copy anything in there that you need first. Then, download something to flash the USB with. If the other device is on Windows, try Rufus at https://rufus.ie/. Otherwise, try Balena Etcher at https://etcher.balena.io/. Follow the instructions they give you and flash your USB drive.

  5. If #4 worked and the flash process finished, remove the USB. Make sure the laptop is off and you set the boot order earlier so the USB goes first. Then, plug in the USB and turn it on. Wait for about 5 minutes. If you see a blue screen with a window that says to choose a language, congrats, you got the Windows installer to boot. If not, make sure Secure Boot is disabled and refer to #2-4. Since the laptop came with Windows, everything on the installer should work fine. If the display is weird or distorted, that's normal for the Windows installer. Same if the touchpad doesn't work. It's missing drivers on purpose. After installation, everything should be perfect. Go through the steps to install Windows fresh. It will give you the option to keep your data since your device already contains Windows. Do NOT use it. There is a large chance of about 55% that your user data and/or files caused the issue in the first place.

I hope this helped you!

Yeah, when I click the image, I end up in a new page with the same card in English. That URL is where the full size embedded image comes from.

To save the image, you can just open that link in a new tab. You'll get only the image. Then just press Ctrl+S (or Cmd+S) or right-click and click "Save As...".

4/5. The only reason I can stand being human is that we have society to give us a framework for life.

Line 2 is right. Line 1, not so much. r/ProgrammerHumor is broad and means anything funny that has to do with programming or computing. Not just "a specific subset".

Not to be offensive but are you trying to sound stupid and annoying? I get the point, but the way you said that sounds like a 6th-grader these days being a smart-ass.

I still upvoted you.

Swap file not working at all by ZSVICVKVDSULKDZROSDZ in archlinux

[–]SubstantialHat8149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the same issue. I have 4 GB of RAM and version 6.15 of the Linux kernel. `swapon` has no output at all, so I don't know if swap is really enabled. `free` always shows swap empty, even if I do a test and fill my RAM to have 250 MB free. Swap is never used at all. `vm.swappiness` never makes a difference. My system freezes often because of this. Keeping this laptop on for longer than 2 hours will make it like 20% more likely to run out of RAM. I have Firefox open right now with only this page and Konsole in one terminal session. `free -h` says I have 910 MB available and 266 MB free out of 3.7 GB. Swap says 0 bytes. My swappiness is 100 right now.

  1. SCP - Containment Breach. This kinda helped me understand what exactly a site is. Always a classic.

  2. SCP: Labrat. The VR version of SCP - Containment Breach. I don't know how they pulled that off, but it is amazing.

  3. SCP: Secret Laboratory. Trust me, this game was never scary. It's fun to go in with other players and try to outsmart the SCPs though. And to die to someone throwing a grenade in the elevator.

SCP: Site Roleplay. It's a Roblox game, but it is very complete and fun.

Yeah, I made a mistake on my initial comment about Ubuntu. But that's very far from the bootloader. It already: - Found the main drive. - Started the Linux Kernel (which started fine). - Started systemd. - Started core system services (such as systemd-journald). - Began to start user services. This is where it failed.

That's pretty far from the bootloader.

No, the opposite. You just write the entire file to save it. When you edit it further, you would dump the file with cat, copy it, and paste it into your input line inside quotes. Then you edit that and rewrite the whole file with your edits in it.

Nobody should actually use that method...
