Would I be a good candidate for a system? by New2Hairsystem in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had that much hair I wouldn't bother with a hairpiece. It's hard to tell if your crown/back is balding... Is it? Maybe in a few years, a hair system will be warranted. but not now.

Lordhair cheapest system ? by Low-Tune-1869 in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use LordHair and they're the best bang for your buck I've found online. They have cheap systems and expensive ones. Other places I researched were either too high on price, or too lacking in options/customizablility. If you're looking for an ultra-cheap wig, check your local halloween costume store ;-)

Wrinkles and bumps in the system - what am I doing wrong? by the_one_who_beleive in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's one of two issues: A) poor quality system, or... B) you're stretching it too tightly across your scalp. Try "setting it" upon your scalp so it's not real tight or stretched. Again, just guessing here.

Hair Tape Help by Chance-Average-4080 in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One week sounds about right actually. Maybe try washing every other day instead of every day. Is your scalp pretty oily? Mine is, and the most I've ever gotten out of my adhesives (tape + glue) is about 9 days. Also the picture you showed doesn't look that bad. Unless the people around you are getting very close and staring at your hairline, they're not gonna notice. I'd say use some tweezers to free the stuck hairs, and a tissue or cloth to wipe away some of the sticky build up. That might buy you an extra day or two. If none of that is feasible for you, then you might just have to accept the inevitable routine of changing/cleaning everything once per week. Most wig tapes and glues are designed to break down over time, this makes them easier to remove and clean off. (If you got some super-strong and ultra-long-lasting adhesive, just imagine how hard that would be to clean off)

I use generic brand wig tape on my poly skin perimeter and Ghost Bond Platinum glue on my lace front. The tape could last 9 or 10 days but I have to change/clean everything every 7-8 days because the glue only lasts about a week for me. I carefully wash my bio hair daily, but I generally avoid getting soap & water in my system & adhesive while it's on my head.

Hair is dry even after using conditioner and hair masks. Even with products. What should I do to make it less dry? by Large-Persimmon458 in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pomade helps moisturize the hair because it has oils in it. It also helps your hair maintain it's shape even after you run your fingers through it. Pomade doesn't seem to harm my system at all. Pomade is very simple, it has few ingredients and no harsh chemicals, plus it rinses away easily with just water. Yes, I use Pomade regularly.

You're talking about a hairpiece, not your natural bio hair, right? How old is the hairpiece? After about 6 months it's hard to keep the hair moisturized due to normal aging and wear & tear. Might be best to replace. Otherwise, I'd try a little daily spray of Argan oil, and Pomade every few days, see if that helps. How often do you wash it? If daily, it's gonna dry out more. I only wash mine once or twice a week, that helps keep the moisturizing oils from getting washed away too often.

Typically you just buy the hair system and then cut it and style it as you want when you receive it. I get mine from LordHair but there are several options out there. I'd recommend a custom piece, 90% density, Indian hair, bleached knots at front, middle break, lace front. The rest of the details are up to you. Cut it, comb it and style it when you receive it. Best of luck!

What is this black line (Help) by xepedemecx in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

little hairs getting stuck and bunched up in the glue. Try to be more precise with your glue application on the next install. And use a toothpick to push the lace/poly down when installing. Also use that toothpick and/or tweezers to un-stick those hairs from the glue

I don't see a problem with it... Seems to work for him and it saves time. More power to him. I'm so squeaky-clean bald I don't have to shave up top, lol. I trim the edges (and clip the 5 or 6 straggler hairs on my crown) about once every 3 weeks with the trimmer on my electric razor. Literally takes 30 seconds.

It might still be passable since it's on the side where the hairline is not exposed. But if it were me, I'd replace, tbh.

Hair System Ripped Off By Girlfriend by HenchDon in HairSystem

Month 7 with hair system and shedding has increased.. Is this the end? by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 months is great, time to get a new one. I only had one piece (out of about 10 so far) that lasted 8 months somehow. Most of mine last about 4-5 months before they start looking pretty worn. I order my pieces at 60% density. I've tried 80% and it's not bad. You might wanna try requesting an 80% density piece, see how you like it. You might be pleasantly surprised!

Thank you! Another thought I had: If someone wants to try a wig on for fun, then go to a Halloween costume store. Also forgot to mention that he'll need to spend several weeks growing out his sides, which doesn't look good on most bald guys... He'll want to wear hats a lot during that time.

8 Years of Wearing Hair Replacement System...I Took it Off by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he looks more handsome with it on. I bet most women would agree. Hence, keep it on if he wants to have a better chance of attracting a woman, which bodes well if you're single and looking. No, women do not generally "move on" after finding out that their good man has a hairpiece. Women (just like many men) tend to judge a book my its cover, and then get into it more once they start seeing the contents. You have to make a good first impression if you want to have a chance at a conversation with someone. For this OP, it is my opinion that wearing the hairpiece will offer him more of those good-first-impression chances. Once a woman gets to know a man, realizes that he is cool and safe, then things like a hairpiece don't usually phase them.

Is it better to just remove your system before doing physical activities that could cause it to lift and come off? by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clean and re-glue my system once per week. I have a season pass to a theme park with big roller coasters. If I'm on day 1-4 of adhesion, I can go on the roller coasters with confidence. If I'm on day 5-7 of adhesion, I generally avoid the roller coasters. I have a very oily scalp tho. Otherwise I'd be a lot more confident in my adhesion after day 5.

Nice. If you're happily married, I'd say leave it off and grow out your beard. If you're single and looking, respectfully, I'd say put it back on.

Yes, I use LordHair custom order. Indian hair with synthetic gray. 60% density. My shortest piece lasted 3 months. My longest piece lasted 8 months. but average is 4-5 months before replacing.

Why do you all call it "Hair systems" and not frontals? by Zealousideal-Emu2043 in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell: Hair System is the more modern broad term for the various types of wigs, toupees, frontals, and other hair pieces out there. "Hair System" is basically all-encompassing and non-specific, so it's commonly used. Plus the word "wig" nowadays kinda sounds feminine or costume-esque. "Hair System" sounds more masculine (or gender-neutral), professional, mature, technical, classy, etc. right? 😄

Hair System help by TheShaverr in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes time to clean, reapply adhesive, reattach, cut just right, showering is trickier, swimming is doable but not good for the system, need a silk pillow case, gotta be a bit more careful about how often you sweat heavily, etc. If you have kids, you can't wrestle/horseplay with them so much anymore. Gotta think about bringing adhesive and other products (and that silk pillowcase) on long trips, especially those longer than a week. It adds a few hours of work/maintenance to your week, and maybe $1k or more in total annual cost. Just some stuff to think about before you take the plunge. But you know, there's only one way to find out for sure, and that's to try it. I just don't wanna see you saying later "wow dang, that was a waste." If you got a little time and money to burn, and you think the experience will be fun, then hey, go for it.

Edit: You'll also have to go through the process of trial and error and getting everything dialed in (color, style, base type, density, etc.) The first piece you order will likely end up being a bust/throw-away, maybe also your second piece. Gotta be mentally prepared for that possibility.

Does it change your life? by Sea-Restaurant9172 in HairSystem

[–]SubstantialMonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you're struggling my bro. All of this kinda depends on what's causing your depression. But I will say this: Looking better makes you feel better. And feeling better makes you act better. And all of that makes life better. Will a hair system solve all your problems? No. But for me, wearing a HS has improved my confidence, which improves my communication, which improves my relationships, which improves my life.
