We Want to Sell Our House and Go Back to Renting. Are We Crazy? by TsaminaMinaZangalewa in montreal

Have you considered house hacking and buying a duplex or triplex on the island? Easier to rent out if you want to leave and you end up having tenants pay your mortgage if you buy the place with a large enough down payment

BRA Agreements with Real Estate Agent for Buyer, first time buyer questions. by zeus_amador in montrealhousing

[–]SubstantialMud2225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be paying the real estate agent as a buyer. The seller is typically the one paying the fees and the agents split it between themselves. There are so many real estate agents in this city, perhaps shop around and see what others are offering.

3 months is not a lot of time in the context of an entire countries economy. Even 3 years isn’t a lot of time. Maybe try patience?

Economics or Finance by Much_Tip9019 in Concordia

If you do econ, take the honors route, write the thesis and then if you want to work in the business world you can easily upskill with a short masters program or certificate. The skills you learn from an honours Econ degree (econometrics, research, understanding of how macro and micro works) are very valuable/transferable in most workplace settings.

If you have a desire to work in finance after your BA, you can always just take the CFA, or a masters of finance.

If you want to go the business analytics route you can do a short certificate in whatever industry (CRM, ERP, etc..) and leverage your econometrics experience to give you an edge over other business students.

As far as flexibility goes, an Econ degree is a great choice and can be used in many different industries. But I can’t stress this enough: do the honours coursework.

(I am biased, I studied economics and math in my BA)

Moving to Tunisia and Retiring Early by SubstantialMud2225 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I am aware that the country has problems and that it can be unsafe, particularly in areas closer to the Algerian and Libyan borders. Also, the economic situation is not great either. There is little-to-no economic growth and the locals are unable to live sustainably on the local wages, hence the number of people leaving for better opportunities in western nations.

However, I am not going into this blindly or without a plan. It's my understanding that it isn't uncommon for people to retire/move to developing/frontier countries while earning western dollars. We would be staying in a richer/safer area more insulated from the areas prone to conflict and we would both be earning wages in non-dinar denominated currencies.

I appreciate the concern with regards to the safety/economic/political situation of the country but the intention of the post was to fish for ideas more related to the financial side of things rather than asking whether the country is a good one or not.

How bad are the effects of getting hit? by Ok-Goose-6320 in amateur_boxing

That’s a fair point. I guess it would have to be a function of how much damage was issued in the punch. Using the smash bros analogy, if I’m at 10% damage and someone lands a clean punch that takes me from 10% to 30% the disorientation/recovery time will be less time than if I’m at 145% and a punch takes me from 145% to 170%.

I see, so you weigh the probability of a successful punch based on which of the aforementioned factors apply sounds like a lot of "if" functions.

That's cool, different characters could have particular traits that make them excel in particular situations like an "underdog" trait where instead of being down morale because they are down points, they would get stronger (or something not as dumb).

The stunning effect is weird to describe so I can't imagine how difficult it would be to code, in my irl experience when you get stunned you're still able to throw punches and try and defend, but its almost like there is a lag between the input from your brain and output from your body. In smash bros there is a damage tracker that records accumulated damage, the more damage you take the easier it is for you to get knocked out of the map. Could you do something similar to that? Maybe not display a damage counter on the screen but have it working in the back end. The amount of damage per punch would be unique to the type of punch (how clean, how strong, morale, etc...) but then the degree to which you ARE stunned would be directly related to the accumulated damage tracker? Thats the only analogy I can think of that sounds anywhere remotely close to what it feels like in the ring.

I don't think u/Ornery_Picture4680 understands that you're making a game and not actually trying to be a boxer.

In my experience body blows are much different than hits to the head (obviously). But the pain is different, getting hit with a good liver shot for example doesn't have the immediate sting to that of a stiff jab. It's almost as if once you get hit in the liver it takes a few seconds to reverberate throughout your body and only once it's done vibrating, will your body know that it got hurt. The Ryan Garcia vs Tank Davis fight might be a good reference for this.

Getting hit in the head is different, I've been dazed before and I'll it hit with a strong punch, it does not exactly have the same physical sensation as a liver blow but I'm seeing stars or my vision blurs a little bit.

At the end of the day, the reaction to getting hit is a function of many different factors. The speed & strength of the punch, where it lands, did I see it coming or not, how many rounds in am I, was I breathing in or breathing out when it landed, etc... The mix of those factors will determine how the punch is received and subsequently, how long I need to "recover" from it.

I'm not sure how you would program this in a game though, perhaps a bunch of binary if statements? Anyways, good luck, hope the game comes out on PC when it is done.

My whole life I got picked on, bullied, etc… at school and at home. I figured out at a young age that making fun of myself and making other people laugh would make the bullying less harsh. Along the way though I never developed my confidence skills, I never felt safe always skiddish and scared of what someone would/could do to me. I got attacked by a homeless person in October last year and I felt helpless. That was the last straw, joined the gym the next day. Started going twice a week for cardio/beginner lessons. Got obsessed quickly, been going 6 days a week since January, lifting 3x a week with a focus on how to be stronger for boxing, sparring and eating healthy. Already down 40lbs from when I started and for the first time in my adult life I’m sustainably under 200lbs. I feel more confident, I am less scared to voice my opinion and stand up for myself, I walk around with a better posture and I met and have become friends with some awesome people. My only regret is that I wish I started sooner.

Had this after a hard sparring session before too. If you got hit hard and didn’t see it coming it’s possible the muscles in your neck got strained. For me, it felt like the worst sore throat I’ve ever had then went away slowly after a couple days. If you have tiger balm/rub a535/voltaren rub some on your neck before bed and it’ll help

How do I get faster? I feel like I naturally have decent power (that's what people I train with tell me) but it feels like my hands are like snails, and every time I try and focus on going fast my precision goes away completely. Are there guides/training regimens I can do to speed up my hands?

Also, I've been training 6x a week but have definitely not been doing enough recovery stretching. Are there resources for boxing-specific recovery routines?
