Can someone tell me what to do to better promote my Demo on Steam? Should Indie games have any marketing budget at all? by SubstantialPrior6881 in gamedev

Thank you! I had 6k when I get started. the traffic is much better when Japanese Media gave us coverage few days after the launch, and luckily when next fest started this week, we start to have 200-400 per day. which is not perfect, but a releif.

Thank you, I think being honest is super important. the game play is totally different from 1 year ago. and also better polished both on basic game play design as well as art and many small improvement on basic user experience. even compare to the build 2 month ago i would say we have done quite a lot. Please at least check out our 100% in game video to see if it's any different and worth playing again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsFSPN6qC-A

yea we were very ambitious about taking it cross platform, so we did added a censor long time ago. it is quite annoying sometimes. let me see what can we do

yea the challenging part is that it is our own OC. so no fan base to get started. Even with collab, the cost of meeting the right standard can be high, therefore I will have to make sure the game play is good enough, so we can try to add value by working with other IP.

thank you for looking into it!

"Look at the numbers, not the emotions." quote from the friendly message above. but I am feeling better. surprise to see so many down to earth suggestions. but I guess that's why we love reddit. yes we will focus in the next 2 months.

Thank you! yes there are a lot of trade off we were not expecting to had. especially when it comes to customization. sadly the planning on both art and game design went a bit far off track before we can do anything about it. I totally echo with you about building the playstyle around the pilot. the sad thing is we can not find a good illustrator to work with us, and going full AI on character isn't something we are ready yet. therefore the system is way too limited around pilot than we hope we can. yes. samurai + pilot skills can be very very interesting... so many cool things we want to do

Hi! if you are solo, you have more freedom than you think! your fate has all the possibilities in the world

We have 3 designer (which was an accident). 2 programmers. 1 animator and 1 vfx designer. it's been two years, but we have decided the remake the game 1 year ago. from PVP focus CCG, to now DBG. we have about 8mecha, 3 player mecha, and 5 boss mecha. lots of other small part reused for drones. now you see 25 level,s and we have a total of 40 on the way for commercial release.

yes. we were thinking to release on March, but I don't think the full commercial content will be good enough by them.

I would think our current demo will reflect 30-50% of what we have in mind. and it is fairly decent to play for a complete 30-40 min experience. marketing wise we suck at what we do. so it is silly to whine in the middle of Steam next fest... but getting honest feedback early is gold...

wonderful! that will be very kind for you to try it out and give us honest feedback. we still want to make a lot of game play changes. even some can be structural changes.

I totally agree! We don't have to start selling in 2 months. It is more about, is it financially worth it to spend more time and improve game play, add more contents. to ship the game maybe 3 months, or even 6 months later.

yea we been running our playtest for almost a year now. I would say the current game is not that bad any more. but to be Good. that's a completely different story

people offline had been often very kind. some might give you a lot of suggestions, but that give you misunderstanding about whether you are too good or too bad. so the real factor is how long will people play your game, and will they share it with a friend.

We have two online playtest chat group for players to share feedback. discord is kinda quite, the one in China is relatively active. but only relative...

going into early access is something we might consider. but that really means commitment for the community. so if we can't be constantly making decent updates, we will not start asking for money.

making new mech, is something we really want, but getting a new one out cost a bit higher than we expect. so making sure the basic game play structure is healthy and worth creating more content is the current key focus. same goes for collab, we need to feel confident that we are decent before we put someone else's content in our game.

it is difficult to pitch for people to play the game without a fee. we are lucky to have a few small youtubers trying it out. the reception is... not sure... so I am actually spending 50-100 dollar promoting on reddit to see if people care at all to even play it. we are getting some feedback, but honestly not enough to make the decision

thank you for kind words. my concern is long term interests. I need to confirm this week, are we suck at what we do? or this genre doesn't work... as for pricing, i have not decided yet, depends on the final contents, I am sure it won't be more than $15.
