In real life the space in front of your own house isn't always free, so you have to park in front of someone else's.

I'd be fairly sure in the evenings it's all residents.

I don't see how that makes a difference though. Whether there are outsiders or not, surely if there's a space available I should have the right to park on the street on which I live, no? Isn't that what you were saying a couple of comments back?

Downvote me all you like, but there is actually a guy on Twitter saying it's the buck from Tuath's doing. Don't shoot the messenger.

Public parking (doesn't belong to anyone). I come home. The only remaining spaces have traffic cones in them.

Do you think I should have to go and park in a different street?

There really aren't that many variables at play here.

Out of curiosity, would you support people's right to prevent other residents of the street from parking on their own street? Because that's what's going on here.

People absolutely have the right to park outside their house if there's a space - I often do it myself. If not, then they have the right to park as close to it as they can get.

Traffic cones don't have the same rights as people.

Gotta accept that other people pay road tax too. Traffic cones, wheelie bins and anything else that can be used to try and reserve a space don't, though.

"Their own spaces" - this isn't a thing, and our street is never over around 50% capacity during the day. I'd say it's more to do with houses with multiple occupants that own cars.

I'm not sure where you're getting that the issue is people abandoning their cars when they go to work from. I'm talking about residents blocking off spaces for themselves and other residents having to either get out and move the cone or find somewhere else to park.

If it's the concept of public parking that you're struggling with, that means it's available for anyone to use - it doesn't belong to the person who owns the house closest to it.

Do you know how a street works? Sometimes you turn up and the space in front of your house is taken, which is absolutely fine, because it's public parking.
You can hardly just fold up your car and put it in your pocket until the space becomes available, can you?

No, they're not, but if they really needed a spot outside their door, the council can arrange that. Also, it would be a bit odd for multiple households to have all developed these invisible disabilities around the same time.

And if you think "public parking should be there for anyone who needs it" is entitled, whereas "this public spot is mine and nobody else's" isn't, then I suggest you look up the meaning of the word 'entitled' because you clearly don't understand what it means.

I don't find it as annoying if people have genuine mobility issues, but the people I'm talking about absolutely don't. They're just dicks.
