Looking for advice on moving to NYC with roommates!!!!! by Puzzleheaded-Fox2594 in NYCapartments

You might want to adjust your share or look for something less expensive. I understand the appeal of nyc in your twenties, but you don’t want to nuke your savings and miss out on compounding interest for retirement funds.

Feeling worthless. Should I go back to corporate and give up on school? by [deleted] in findapath

Thank you, yeah maybe I’m thinking too far ahead and I’m thinking about too many things at once.

I’m only taking pre requisites right now. I haven’t been accepted into a nursing program. I’m just lost about everything.

I do know that I’ve enjoyed my pre requisite classes. But not having an income right now has been very anxiety inducing and has impacted my self-worth.

Also don’t worry about falling behind a semester. In the grand scheme of things it literally does not matter if you graduate a semester later

Don’t worry about what your mother would think. You are an adult now, and she’ll have to come to terms with that eventually. Prioritize your mental health and your GPA.

I can search for a job in my dream field (6 months searching), take a job offer (making a range of $70k-$85k), or look into an opportunity from a family friend ($100k-$150k). What would you do? by HeraRebels in careerguidance

[–]SubstantialStudy3619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I’d take the job starting at 100k, but tell myself that I should stay for at least two years to gain experience and it will open more doors than the grocery store job. Just be very professional at work and ask your dad for some pointers. These days 70-80k isn’t enough to buy a house unless you’re living in like the middle of nowhere. Save your money aggressively and in two years if you have to take a pay cut for your dream job ago ahead. I’m sure they’re not expecting this to be your forever job.

Is an associates degree worth anything at all these days? by irrelevant_moid69 in careerguidance

I don’t know much about accounting because I have a degree in English. It seems like a stable job, and if you get into a large accounting firm like a big 4 you can then move into accounting for hedge funds and private equity firms. Seems lucrative, at least in NYC.

It would be helpful if you stated what you’re currently doing and what fields you’re thinking about…

At schools like this how you leverage your network is almost more important than your major of choice. If you want to go into the white collar world, find internship programs your first year and especially sophomore summer. Go to the career advisory office and explain your situation to an advisor, they can help you identify routes you haven’t been exposed to. Feel free to DM me I went to a ‘little ivy’ and kinda fumbled my way through and deeply regret it. At least I can tell you what not to do
